Default Steering Column Lock...

Did a search, and outside of buying a CLB, which is going to be on order tomorrow, I am stranded right now. I am getting a pull key, wait 10 seconds code and after I do that, I get the steering column lock code but the steering column is not locked! I can move it easily. I know the recall has been done because the fuel cuts out when I exceed 2mph. Am I screwed or is there anything I can do right now to get home. Thanks!!!!!!!

If you're still stranded, some folks have had success by pulling fuse 25 and waiting about 10 minutes before plugging it back in. Personally I'd try that or disconnecting the battery for the same amount of time. If that doesn't get it done, a flatbed might be in your future.

If you could still hear your actuator cycle, then it is probably still working and you can remove the GM Harness K relay and reconnect the column lock actuator to get you home. Most likely the recall harness relay has failed and is not sending the correct signal back to the BCM to keep the fuel from being cut.

You would need to have enough tools to remove the panel below the steering column to get to the connector for the actuator. The Harness K relay is connected between the main wiring harness and the actuator, so all you have to do is remove the harness and connect the actuator back to the stock position.

TEXHAWKO has the solution. I had the same thing happen to my C5 within 6 months of buying the car and the dealer recall. Not interested in getting the car trucked to the dealer, which is what all the locals 'experts' could recommend, I got advice on this forum to remove the Harness K, and hook the connectors back to their pre-recall position, which I did, and the car started and ran fine. Ordered the CLB, and installed it about a week later, and haven't had a problem in the last 3 years
