Check engine light
My check engine light just came on this morning. Lit solid. No flashing. I'm bringing the car in to my dealer tomorrow morning, but would like to know what's happening. How do I check the codes again and does anyone have the link to the definitions? I just did a brief search and couldn't come up with any of this info. Thanks.

Well, not so fast... The code it's throwing is not included in the listing on that link. I'm getting
10-PCM PO440 H C
I'm assuming that this means the same code has been thrown before, hence the "H" for history, but that it is now throwing it again due to the "C" after the "H". Is that correct and does anyone know what PO440 is??
Now let me also add that I just had my windows tinted on the vert this morning and the check engine light came on when I was leaving the place, which I thought was a strange coincidence. The only reason I even mention this is because the tinter told me that one of the wires for the rear window defroster that clips to the heating element was not connected and that he couldn't find it.
did you get gas too - looks like that code can be caused by a loose gas cap..
P0440 OBD-II Trouble Code
Technical DescriptionEvaporative Emission Control System Malfunction
What does that mean? This indicates that a part of the EVAP control system is no longer fuctioning correctly. The EVAP system consists of many parts, including (but not limited to) the gas cap, fuel lines, carbon canister, purge valve, and other hoses. The (EVAP) emission control system prevents the escape of fuel vapors from a vehicle's fuel system. Fuel vapors are routed by hoses to a charcoal canister for storage. Later, when the engine is running a purge control valve opens allowing intake vacuum to siphon the fuel vapors into the engine.
SymptomsYou likely won't notice any drivability problems.
CausesA code P0440 could mean one or more of the following has happened:
The gas cap is not installed or working properly
The purge solenoid has failed
The canister is plugged and not working properly
Possible SolutionsWith a P0440 OBD-II trouble code, diagnosis can be tricky at times. Here are some things to try:
Remove and reinstall the gas cap, clear the code, and drive for a day and see if the codes come back.
Inspect the EVAP system for cuts/holes in tubes/hoses
Inspect for damaged or disconnected hoses around the Evap purge solenoid
Check and/or replace the sensor
Check and/or replace the purge valve
Have a professional use a smoke machine to detect leaks
go up to the search button, select advanced search, then look for p0440 as your arguement, but specify that you only want to search the C5 forums - there are more than a few hits to give you some things to check

You guys and this forum totally rock.
My gas cap was VERY loose, which is weird. Now I'm wondering if the tattoo who installed my window tint this morning siphoned off a gallon or three of fuel while I was a few doors down looking at gun safes.
Case closed. Trip the dealer averted. Many thanks, once again, to one and all!
