you all the sudden notice that the column lock motor has stopped making its usual noises when the key is inserted and removed.... then what???
The car is a '02, and it had the latest recall work done (where they put the plate around the column lock ring and do something to the computer). It's always worked fine for the last 2 years I've had it. The motor engaged and disengaged on cue, but the wheel still would turn of course because of the TSB recall work. I've only rarely gotten the "pull key and wait 10 seconds" errors. I ordered a CLB kit from corvettes of houston long ago, but I never installed it because I had the latest recall done.
Lately I've heard the motor change in tone--it started to sound a little ill. And I just noticed tonight that the motor isn't even working now. The car still drives just fine, but now I'm quite worried about the 2mph fuel cutoff issue!
Is it time to finally installed the CLB, or do I really have nothing to worry about? Thanks!
You should not need a working actuator for the Harness K relay to continue to work. One forum member left the actuator connector on the relay disconnected, and the system still worked.
If you are not getting any error messages, then the BCM is still receiving the correct signal to keep from cutting the fuel when you drive the car.
If the relay itself fails, then you will have to replace it with either another GM relay or an aftermarket version.
Ok thanks for the tips! So as long as I'm not seeing any error codes, I shouldn't bother with installing the CLB kit? I hear relays clicking... it's just the actual column lock motor that isn't spinning anymore.
