I have been lurking in the Parts for F/S, WTB, WTT for over two years and have come to the conclusion that certain takeoffs, used stock C5 parts (non ZO6), have little or no value. Recently, I tried to giveaway a stock exhaust from an 02 W/24.6K after I upgraded to TI Exhaust and had no takers'. The TI's were puchased from a forum member that listed them on here. My question now is what parts have a resale value and what parts should go to recycling. From my observations, any high mileage wear item should be junked, such as shocks, tires, interior parts, and any item that is a favorite mod upgrade. What parts do you think should be just recycled?
I just threw a bunch of oem C5 and C6 parts that I tried giving away for free but people wanted me to pay for shipping as well with insurance and tracking numbers.
I decided it was a lot less hassle to toss them in the dumpster instead.
You can get money for the cats from your old exhaust. Here's a site I have saved for when I take my stock exhaust off but I've never used them http://www.davisconverters.com/contactus.shtml
I learned a long time ago that you don't throw away car parts. It may not have value now, but it might in the future...especially since GM might not exist as we now know it.
I remember throwing away a "bat wing" air cleaner for a dual quad 283 from my '57 Chevy convertible. I wanted chrome. That assembly is easily worth a couple of thousand dollars (or more) now...

MOST things can definatly be repaired or rebuilt .. some cannot...but time can change things . I personally get enjoyment out of rebuilding things.
I just gave all my take off/modded stock parts to a friend who has a vette shop. It helps their business to have C5 parts in storage. You never know....

I would agree that some items just aren't worth messing with (shocks, tires, etc.). A stock exhaust might be valuable to someone if they are wanting to put their car back to original condition. Might be worth listing it and seeing if someone wants it.
Here is an example, I just replaced my stock C5 shocks and swaybars with C6ZO6 shocks and C6Z51 swaybars and the takeoffs had 24.6K on the clock. Now, over the last three months I have seen members try an sell these type items with little success. I agree that certain parts will have resale value, but how many people replace a stock part with a stock part. If we are talking a performance mod, that is a different story, you would keep the OEM part in the event you want to put it back to stock and recoup some your money when you sell your Vette. What parts are definite throwaways?
If you have the room, I'd vote to keep it. My attic and basement are full of parts like this Even stuff like stock exhaust, you may want to go back to stock and sell the upgraded parts.
IMO i'd suggest not trashing them. Start a "pay it forward thread" and have the "Takers" pay shipping costs on larger items. This promotes fun and goodwill here on the forum.
