Plan A, Fellow C5 Drivers, rumor has it that after a few years the seats of a C5 have a tendency to rock (1/4 movement forward/backward). This is due to a poor design of the auger track block isolator. Well my driver side seat was real bad, passenger not any better. I found this in the web searching for a solution. I followed it to the T, and now I am the proud owner of solid seats... hats off to the creator of this procedure, I take no credit but give this man a lot of it.. Now working on getting new leather skins for the worn out driver seat.. Plan B..
Yea, mine was so bad when I accelerated the I movement was just enough to have the clutch foot engage and jump off the line, I could truely say "Offcier it was the car not me!!!". Plus I couldn't stand hearing my passenger say, "hey what the heck is wrong with your seat here". I used 8 nylon washers from Home Depot at $ 0.12 cents each. You do have to file one down for each block to fit snuggly, but it was a breeze.. These forum are the best place for concerned Vette owners and it is very helpful to share these fixes so other Vette owners won't have to re-invent the wheel. Ride safe and look good doing it. Jesse

Jesse - Thanks for posting up that link - it has been on here before, but it has been a long time. Always good to have a reminder of procedures that work.
Thanks guys, Corvette Forum has great members, in fact I haven't met a Vette owner that was negative. It must be owning a wonderful sexy vehicle that stirs the emotions... I"ll stop now, or I may have to turn in my man card... How about those Raiders

When I removed my seats, (for insulation) there was no coinage. The previous owner was either anally clean, or broke! Rocking to be addressed this winter... thanks for the link.
To 97C5Owner, The first seat rail took approximately 40 mins., the next three rails took about 15 mins. each to remove and a few more minutes to repair and return. Bottom line, I started at 8am Mon. morning ended with all back to normal by 11am. I blew a fuse on the drivers seat, ???, I just unplugged the two connectors, why, don't know.... I did find 79 cents total under the seats so the owner of this vette was not **** (he was still cheap, I was hoping for a few bills or two....). Oh, I also found one french fry, McDonald, I could tell it was years old but still tasted like it was made yesterday, Naw, but now I stopped eating at Micky Ds since finding it.... Later guys, you guys are all great...
Thanks for posting. Amazing that the fix is simply replacing worn out rubber with nylon washers. Imagine what a dealer would charge for this and the profit margin!
Good scoop! I'm a victim of the rocking seat gremlin!! Annoying. Can't wait to fix it now. Thanks!!
How long did it take ya'll using the DIY thread??
Seems like an 1 1/2 hrs for the drivers seat. Maybe a little longer. I stared at it a bit and checked pictures...etc.. Second seat would take 30 minutes maybe? Didn't need to do the passenger seat on mine. Probably should have just so that I wouldn't have to do it later. The rubber bushings in mine were in pieces.
Armedruby, I decided to do both, again if one is worn most likely the other will follow. I'm old school, if one headlight bulb burns out, I always replace both sides. They have a burn time and if installed together, most likely will burn out together. Doing both seats seemed like the best thing to do so I didn't have to start the wheel all over in a couple months or a year, get her done...Enjoy
We have a new kit coming in for this problem as well. Here is the post from our Corvette Parts Blog:
Finally there is a solution to the annoying seat rocking in C5 Corvettes. Lucky for you it does not require purchasing a whole new seat track unit from GM, which would cost around $550 not including labor to install. In years past this would have been your only option once your Corvette’s Seat Tracks began rocking during acceleration or braking, but now Zip Corvette has a replacement seat track shim kit that will solve your problems and save you money. Corvette Seat Track Shim Kit
The C5 Corvette Seat Track Shim Kit comes with 4 new self lubricating shims that replace the original shims, which often deteriorate and wear out over time. Installation of the new shims is not difficult and is easily accomplished with basic mechanical skills. Step-by-step instructions are included as well as 2 short arm stubby torx wrenches that are required for installation. These wrenches can rarely be purchased at local hardware stores and are often only available in complete tool kits. Purchase online at Zip Corvette Parts
