temp question
I own a 98 vert, 40K on the dial. The car has consistently run at 190-200 degrees and not budged hot or cold. Recently doing weekend runs for erands , I've noticed temp guage moving around, idling, temp moves 200 to 230, and noticed a slight coolant smell. I've been doing reading on the subject of engine temps and the whole range of responses. My problem or panic has shown up in thes last couple of weeks, sometimes the cars acts normally, the temp comes up to 190+ and stays rock solid, other times the temp varies when I notice coolant smell. No radiator obstructions and coolant looks OK. Any firm info would be appreciated before I start checking for local garage and diagnostics
