Hi. C5, 2000 coupe. Stock Delco am/fm stereo w/ single cd changer.
If the car is prewired for the cd changer, where exactly would I find the connector?
I've looked under the passenger footwell....but I don't know what I'm looking for.
I've looked in the rear hatch...but again I don't know where to look...
thanks
I posted this over in the audio section....but I'm kind of in a hurry here.
The Bose head units (CD/cassette) can all support a remote changer, but the wire harness ain't there if the changer wasn't ordered with the car. In my 2000, the previous owner had to buy the changer and wiring harness, and run it under the carpet.
actually, I'm not adding a cd changer. I want to connect an iPod...but I keep running into the question - Is your car prewired for a cd changer? And I'm trying to determine if it is or not.
You could also check the glove box label for the RPO code "U1S" for the CD changer. Or under the carpet as poolboy said.
The Bose head units will all support a remote changer, even if you plug it in "locally". Depends on your iPod interface, if it needs a male or female GM interface.
I just bought the head unit from LTStewy8 (quick shipper too! ), and he also has an iPod interface for sale (GM10-AUX input adapter), with a stubby cable. 12-disc-changer-and-bose-speaker-system.html Probably what you are looking for. There's a pic of the rear pins on the Bose head unit.
Todd - the radio in your post is different then mine.
(pictured here)
Here's what I did:
I ordered the PODGM2V6 - 2000 Chevrolet Corvette - from Neo Car Audio. Supposedly this one connects directly into the back of my stock Delco radio (no extra wire harness needed because I don't have the cd changer in my hatch).
Neo Car Audio makes a different model (PODGM4V6) if you're prewired (or have) the 6 disc cd changer. This model plugs in at the trunk (which is what every body else's does)
I'll post regarding how well it does or doesn't work once I get it (that'll be late next week since I chose the 'donkey express' shipping method). I have to wait for my carbon fiber console and radio surround to come back from the manufacturer anyway before I can finished with the reconstruction of the interior.
- I replaced my flasher/hazard switch today (which required the radio to be removed)....damned turn signals quit working...and then started...and then quit...etc, etc.
Your car is supposed to be wired for a remote changer. Companies like Eckler's sell remote changers and plug-in harnesses. The plug is behind the vertical panel that covers the backsides of the taillight assemblies.
In the Passenger foot well There are two connectors ,as you look at the fuse box they are stashed in the right bottom corner .They are hard to find but they are there. The four pin one is clipped to the plastic lip of the fuse box facing forward .They are there believe me I just did this to mine .You will however have to purchase the cable . If your car didn't have a CD player from the factory the cable will not be in your car and run to the back storage bin . I got my Cable , PIE COR-HAR 97-04 from sales@shipsound.com ,it was thru amazon if you can believe that ,$ 59.95 plus shipping .Hope this helps ya .

Thank you 3whit for that info.
...but I will not be needing the cable because I purchased the Neo Car Audio part # PODGM2V6 which is 'supposedly' for my vette that does not have the cd changer. It plugs directly into the radio. (again, supposedly. It's what I was told by Neo Car Audio. I'll know for sure when it arrives.)

Well, I'm hoping that I won't need any extra wire harnesses. I'm told by Neo Car Audio that they make 2 versions. One for the vettes WITH the cd changer and one for the vettes WITHOUT. They both connect directly to the stock radio - no extra wire harnesses needed.
But as I said...I will find out.
This page shows both models (along with the cheaper version that I decided not to go with).
