Hey I was just wondering if there was any difference between the shifter, not the transmission, in a Z06 verse a standard C5. Does a Z06 shifter have a shorter throw or anything? Also does it work in a standard C5? Thanks
Don't waste your money on a c6 zo6 shifter. I tried one on my 98 not much of an improvement. MGW 30% is the only way to go, transforms the car, much, much more fun to drive.
Re-read your post I guess i did'nt read correctly. I thought you were comparing c6 zo6 to stock c5. sorry. don't have any experience with c5 z06 shifter. I just know if you want the perfect shifter in your c5 you can't go wrong with MGW.
All of the shifters in either the C5 convertible/coupe or the C5/Z06 from '97 to '04 are exactly the same...stamped steel and rubber isolation with the square ****.
The C6/Z06 shifters are of the same stamped steel and rubber isolation construction, but have the laid back lever and the ergonomic **** which attaches via an "ear" and fastener instead of the "demon key".
The C6/Z06 shifters and C5/Z06 shifters are all interchangeable from '97 to '09, however the boot would need to be altered or an after market boot used.
I just installed a Hurst shifter in my '04 vert. There is a very noticeable difference between the stocker & the Hurst. The Hurst has a much shorter throw and is a much more precise shifter. Additionally, the shifter comes with extra springs to adjust the stiffness to suit your driving style. IMO, it was well worth the $140.
