This one from east coast corvette has the best location for function. It mounts the detector closest to the centerpoint of the car where radar/laser is most likely to hit. The lower-than normal location makes it easier for the rear-detector to pickup laser or radar.

I'm currently using it with my escort 8500. Here's a shot with my old escort 4500:
I had this type of mount for my Escort, and went to the vettemods set-up, for a couple of reasons. First the low mounting position makes the detector more visiable outside the car, thus more likely to be seen and/or stolen. Second, with this mount the detector would vibrate quite a bit. The vettemods bracket with the Invisicord is much more solid and located to the right of the rearview mirror, in a good location to easily see the readout. I have not detected any decline in it's ability to pickup radar signals since moving it from below the mirror. Just A much cleaner installation!

That type of mount also puts a lot of force on the drop or two of glue that attaches the mirror to the windshield. The Vettemods mount looks great;since i hadn't heard of it several years ago I made one and it works perfectly.
There is an OEM screw that mounts to at location. The shaft has a screw on the tip that repalces the OEM screw.

It should be noted that My radar detector was purchased used and came with a suction cup style mount but no visor mount. I built my own custom visor mount from galvenized steel which is MUCH more rigid than the OEM escort visor mount
