Default How the Devil do you Change Trunk Bulbs?

I've got a 2002 Coupe (Not a fixed roof).

I can't figure out how to open up the trunk light assembly to replace the bulbs. I don't have access to my manual either. Does anyone have any tips? Got my LED's from JW and am anxious to install them but they didn't come with any instructions. I was able to figure out the license plate bulbs since they screw in.

There's two ways to access them. You can take out the inner liner and slide the light out of the carpet. You'll have to unscrew the black plastic nut down in the small rear compartment, and the panel will slip out.

An easier way is to take a small flat screwdriver, and pry out the clear lens from the front. Either way the bulb will twist in.

Would this break the housing? Or does it simply snap together with some sort of clips? I'm afraid to damage it. I tried to wiggle it and tug at it gently but it didn't want to give. But I had grabbed the whole thing. Any pictures available to demonstrate??

Not right now, I can post later if no one beats me to it. The clear lens has small tabs on it that makes it snap into place inside the housing.

Just take a screwdriver and insert it into the lip of the housing where the clear lens meets the rest of the housing. Pry up a little and it should pop right off.

If you want to take the whole housing out pull it up where one corner comes out at an angle and wiggle. You aren't going to break that thing unless you're just too rough with it.

Also when you wiggle it out there are two tabs on each side of the housing. When you can see them and access them squeeze them and it will come out a little easier.

Well I was able to pop the clear part off but couldn't get the bulbs out. LOL, they get pretty hot with the trunk open. I'll fool with it later when I get home and don't make an *** out of myself in front of my coworkers.

Yes they do. A rag helps. I think I used one.

I got mine in today. They look great JW! It's been raining non stop here. Hope to see them some time this week at night.

I was able to pull the two tabs inside the housing itself and it simply comes right out. It's much easier to do it this way for anyone in the future who searches this thread:

-Simply remove the white/clear face of the trunk light housing
-Pull the two tabs on each side of the housing to the middle and pull it out
-Flip the housing over and rotate the blue bulb fixture out
-Pop in the led and reassemble.
