Default Vararam VRB2 or Venom

Like to hear from those that have either of these or had one then switched to the other....I understand two different systems and how the air is delivered...and read the different #s on both..but what do you personally think of yours?? (SOP, construction etc....) Right now im leaning to the Venom...

What's the Venom? Personally had a Vararam myself and it was just like they advertised. I gained 2 tenths and 2 mph over another popular cold air intake.

Construction of the vararam is nothing short of an abortion. I reworked mine to seal the ducts better.

The theory of the vararam is to pressurize the ducts to 'ram air'. But the one they sent me looked like it was made by someone earning 5 cents a day. There were 'leaks' all over that I had to seal up myself.

The other day when I was installing my blackouts, I noticed the foam they supplied--which ALSO needed significant reworking--was falling out of the housing. I was able to loosely stick 1 finger into the housing (where the ducts connect to the upper portion of the unit). So who knows how long my unit has been sucking air off the radiator.

I had taken vacation time to install it so I decided to fix it myself and not bother with all the bull of shipping it back and forth.

So I took it upon myself to document my experience. Here's a thread of the 300 dollar piece of crap they sent me.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-g...it-finish.html

It's a great idea but very poorly executed. If you find a venom for less than $285 shipped, buy it. Otherwise spend the 300 dollars on their plastic junk and an additional 30 bucks to get it to "good" working condition.

PS. - once I finished putting about 2 hours of work into their product, I'm happy with it overall. I'd probably be just as happy with the venom and would worry less about sucking up water.

I had to do a little tweaking and adjusting with the foam, and it took a little work to get the shrouds to line up, but pretty much every mod I have bought aftermarket, there is always some type of extra tweaking you have to do.
Other than that I have no issues, and am very happy with the VRB2. I would buy it again. Vararam has been proven time and time again to show great results.

Good luck with your decision.

Vararam Fit and Finish is subpar. I think they should pay me to fix there design and source a new manufacture... J/k..

However it seems to work the design is functional. now about this needed to tune issue.
My car has been acting up while at cruising speeds, studdering etc. It through a check engine light saying that bank 2 is lean... Is this caused from the intake? Is it pushing that much more air that it is forcing the "maps" past the stock parameters? or is it I just need an 02 sensor?

My 02 it worked fine. I drove it 5 miles to the high way to warm her up and then took a quick cruise at varying speeds from 60-110 to let the computer do all the adjusting. I've had zero problems as far as adverse effects (knock on wood).

It's just irritating to me that a 300 dollar 'finished' product requires reworking. You'd think quality assurance/inspection would be a part of their manufacture process...
