I intended to do this install myself but I was injured at work a month ago and simply couldn't do the job. The local shop's owner checked out the equipment and said he could do the job for two hours labor. When I picked the vette up today the guys tells me it was alot more work and that the Double Din bezel still needed alot of modification to fit properly and it was just over four hours labor. I smiled, thanked him and paid the amount he asked. After close inspection I find that there is a crack in the bezel, some scuffs on the dash, the power antenna is extended full-time. I thought the antenna only extended when "Tuner" was selected, but wasn't positive on this one. When I pointed out the crack, his answer was the bezel wasn't made properly and that the pressure of the fit, blah, blah, blah. He offered to install the next bezel if I get this one replaced. I'm considering stopping payment on the Credit Card. Any suggestions?
My stock bezel has the same gap (not as bad though). His offer seems pretty lame. The bezel takes about 5 minutes to swap if you have the tools handy. But... if it won't fit it I am not sure what can be done. Unless he can get the radio to go back further. The problem with that bezel is it is not secured in that corner so there is no way to get it to tuck tight.
The antenna though that is a mistake. Most radios have a antenna out wire that will cause the antenna to go up. Is it up all the time or just when the radio is on? You may want to confirm your radio has that output wire.
Love that bezel. Sorry to hear the guy cracked it, I'm not sure what i would do but it sounds like his fault and he should have called you as soon as it happened. I read a thread on here a while back about peoples bezels not fitting right (like in your last pic) and there was something you could adjust to make it better but i don't remember what it was, maybe someone else will chime in.
As far as the antenna goes I don't know about that particular head unit but most that I have seen the trigger for the antenna is constant once the unit is powered up.
Again, very cool bezel, I really want to do the double din but I spent all my pennies on other mods.
This is about 3 down on my mod list and I've done a lot of research on this mod installation. I know some of our supporting vendors will chime in, however net-net, the guy who installed it did not know what he was doing.
He is correct in that the mod is a LOT more than simply installing a double din unit. The center console deck needs to be modified with supporting frames, etc. The crack in your (beautiful CF) bezel was undoubtedly a result of them trying to pressure fit the bezel around their shoddy install.
Not sure where you got the bezel, however I know the CA Customs offers time of installation assistance. Not that your install guy would have bothered to call them.
BTW - the Kenwood CAN be programmed for the antenna to only go up when the tuner is on.

Unless he is planning on refunding you the cost of a new bezel (since he cracked yours) I would stop payment. He should have given you a nice discount at the very least. What a chump!

I'll have to go through the manual on the Kenwood and figure out how to set the antenna, I was going to just add a switch as I never listen to FM radio. Dennis (C5bearsfan) doubledmods.com modified the bezel and Pat (flasunshine1)American Hydrocarbon LLC did the CF They've both been great to deal with, only Pat's going to bankrupt me before I finish getting all the pieces I want.

He offered no refunded only offered to swap out bezels if I buy a new one.
I would've already stopped payment and the question would've been how can I get a replacement bezel paid for. Work of this quality from a "professional" is completely unacceptable.

You should have said something, I would have straight up traded you the bezel for your seats
The gap is really accentuated by the photos, it's really not as noticable. Of course now that I know it's there.......
You bought an item that was unscratched/damaged and was damaged upon install. Would you stop payment on a body panel if they cracked that or scratched up some new rims? I don't think so...
I don't think you should punnish the manufacturer who's trying to make an honest dollar because some gorilla at the stealership decided to use a f**king hammer to install it...

Think before you bash. It's obvious he meant stop payment on the install.

I think you might have misread. I am thrilled with Dennis and Pat, my gripe is with the installer.

I know you said you were hurt, but this is why I never have anyone install anything in my car. My old car always came back with something jacked up. Nobody cares about your car more than yourself I've learned.
Did you sign any paperwork saying they hold no liabilty for damage? I know some shops I've been to have you sign a little "contract". Especially wheel shops I've gone to.

No, no contracts, it was simply a verbal agreement to two hours labor for the install, no parts. I paid four hours labor without batting an eye because I knew it was actually worth it. Trust me, noone touches my vette for anything, I bought a lift for the garage before I even had my vette. This was just one of those moments of weakness and I just can't hold a sawzaw.
DeVette,
I see that you have an automatic and changed the shift **** I am assuming that you used the adapter how do you ship into drive. I guess my real question is how do you like it? compared to the normal way to shift.
Well from the pictures it looks like the bezel does not fit properly. Personally if I was installing your system I would have called you and said that the bezel did not fit and that I could not install it.
Either way you look at it the bezel needs modifications and you should contact Dennis & Pat and get them to fix it.
I would call the installer and tell him in the future if something does not fit, don't install it.
Anyway, the stereo looks good. There are different connections that can be used for doing the antenna. I would check the manual to see what it says about wiring the antenna, he might of used the one that signals and auxillary AMP.
