Well since I purchased my Z06 in April I have been waiting for the day the stock shifter left my presence. I think its terrible. Anyway, after much searching on here I found that my best bet would be the MGW since most people who had the B&M it seemed went and purchased this one and liked it better. The Hurst, I heard some complaints so I didnt want to try.
Install: Straightforward. The only problem I had was getting the lock pin out of the stock shift ****. It looked like someone tried taking it out previously because it was chewed up badly. I tried to get it out with 5 different sets of pliers with no luck, so I just removed the entire shifter assembly with it on. Install of the MGW was hassle free. I ended up cutting off the stock shift **** with a sawzall (I knew I wouldnt be needing it and I could probably buy a stock shifter for dirt anyway if I needed to), so I could get the leather boots off. Who needs a stock shifter anyway! I also installed the MGW gripper shift **** which has a great feel and a nice look.
Driving: Love it! Now I cant compare it to any others (BM, Hurst) because I have never felt or driven either, but I really do like the MGW feel. Shifts are short and crisp. Getting into 5th and reverse I felt was going to be a problem because of the lack of lateral movement allowed with the shifter however its a incredibly easy. I really couldnt be more happy and I recommend this shifter to anyone who is looking for a nice improvement over stock in terms of feel and directness of shifting and also its an interior mod because it looks so much better than the stock peice. The stock shifter looked like it was from a vehicle from the 80s! Not anymore!
awesome, I am thinking about replacing mine soon. did you shorten your boot any or leave it as is? Got any pics of the install?
Sorry no pics, I installed it while it was getting dark out and just sort of used the interior lights. I cut the center part of the rubber boot out as the directions provided by MGW recommended to do. I should have taken some pics.
I drove the car around for a while yesterday, the shifter really changes the feel of the car! What a great $300 mod!
I just installed my MGW as well. Great unit, but I hope it breaks in a little. I had medical problems with my shoulder and arm, and it is a little tough to get into 5th and reverse. I had to go from my derlin **** that lays very low to the stock **** to get extra leverage.
For the boot, I used a non-forum vendor boot, and it worked out great. No bunching at all! The derlin **** almost bunched up; however, the stock **** and the boot look great together. I will get pictures tomorrow when it is light out.
I started a thread about the MGW and boot in the general C5 forum. I posted a pic of it.
I got one a few months back and its broken it. I will say it takes more muscle to get it into reverse than the stock shifter. 5th is night and day difference in this thing. So is 3rd. I would always miss shift 3rd with the stocker. Its not as loose as the stock shifter either. As it sits lower, but its not solid either. I did like the easy loose neutral/out of gear feel from the stocker, but i am not complaining at all with the MGW..
I had the newest version MGW and didn't like it, it was too stiff! I've had a B&M Precision Sport shifter too, it was not as stiff, but still very precise and short throws!
I have this one from MGW. Sadly they don't make them anymore. I painted the shift pattern emblem black. I have recently removed paint off the top of the pattern. So now it more closely matches the OEM lettering of the radio/heater.

B&M > MGW
I felt the B&M and think it was the same stiffness but less precise. I researched a ton of threads on the MGW, BM and Hurst and an overwhelming number of members SOLD their BM and HURST to get the MGW and I didnt see one person who regretted making that decision. In fact, it was an overwhelming consensus that the MGW is superior, but it is just personal taste.

???????????????????????
I think there's a decent amount of people who jumped on the MGW bandwagon, sold their other shifter and regret doing so, they just don't want to admit it. You're a perfect example of this. Are you trying to make yourself feel good about a decision you might regret?

I have a B&M and would love to feel an MGW. My car came with the B&M so I can't compare to stock.
In my cobra I had an MGW and it was sooooo nice compared to the hurst, bbk, steeda, B&M, and other various shifters I tried out.
The mustang shifter was only 140 when I got it new about 2 years ago. I don't think I can justify spending 300 on a shifter....
The shifter is actually $250. They used to sell for $200, and had two options...a 15% and a 35% shortened throw I believe. Then I saw a post on here from MGW where there was some type of new design that improved the shifter, but the price went up to $250 and the throw was standardized at a 30% reduction if I'm not mistaken.
Just put my MGW shifter in last night easy, got the 35%, used the stock booth with no problem, cut around the the rubber dust cover to fit the MGW booth, easy to install, Got things back together and took it for a spin, Once I learned the different feel in the shifter it was awesome, short stroke clean, I do need to get the feel of 5th and 6th better, anyway the first thru fourth and reverse and great right off the get go, the shifter is a lot tighter than the stock one, $250 plus 10 shipping. I put the stock **** back on but was unable to use the wedge, used Lock tight.
I installed the MGW Monday, and just reset the alignment this afternoon. NICE!! I've used the Hurst (short throws, precise, too much internal drag gives it poor "feel"), C6Z shifter,(a little too loose/soft for me), and now the MGW. This one is just right . Spring weight, feel, accuracy, for me, this one flat works.

same here. I tried them all in my mustang, but I ended up liking the MGW better. All of their stuff is top quality. I might order one eventually. I have an B&M that came with the car and I like it. Not need to switch out something that already works great .
