Is anybody out there running a K&N filter with a stock 02 filter housing? Did you notice any improvement? Has anybody dyno'd to see what the HP improvement is? I know the T1 claims 16 more HP and was wondering how much of an improvement you can get from just a K&N filter over the stock paper filter. Thanks in Advance.
I have a K&N with a modified front cover (the middle and right side are cut out). Going to dyno it this saturday will let ya know how it turns out.... :D :D
The proof is in the puding. There are some big claims out there. I don't know what the K&N will dyno, but it works VERY WELL on my car. I will have to wait for spring to see if the 02 cover helps allot, preaty shure it will help over my 01 cover. Good luck with what ever you choose. Ric
Well, pulled a 333.9rwhp and 333 rwtq with 12.0 AFR. Have a K&N with a modified (read big hole in front) 01 airbox cover. Steve row's 02 EB Z06 ran a 339 rwhp. It was running pig rich. His AFR went below the scale   I put 5 gallons of sunoco GT100 in the tank and I lost 1 hp and 1lb. tq. No more race gas for me!!! :nonod: :nonod:
I saw a lot of people on here that were saying they skipped putting on the gasket for the K&N filter, so I emailed they Manufacturer. Here's their response:
"Dear customer,
We make a high flow, reusable filter to fit the stock airbox. It is
part# 33-2111 with an msrp of $78.28. It will give you a 2 - 4 % horsepower
increase. Yes, the gasket should be used. It is hard to get your hands in
that tight space, but it is necessary to ensure seal as the air box it self
is prone to slight distortion. For a dealer near you please call
888-425-0325 and we are at most auto parts chains.
Thanks for asking, Rick"
Notice he says to expect a 2-4hp improvement....and definitely use the gasket!
I might believe 2 to 4 HP which is in the range of one percent - the difference in power between an eighty degree day and a 70 degree day, but 2 to 4 PERCENT is pure BS. Rick from K&N is a real rocket scientist. Yeah, right - more like P.T. Barnum.
ebluez, The directions go even farther than that..............they plainly state that you can damage you're engine IF you do not install this gasket.......
Filter will be too loose, and allow too much silica to enter the motor.........
Bye-Bye rings, over an extended period, as well as scoring bearings, oil pressures down, etc.......I would install it for SURE.
An LS6 engine is WORTH the extra 30 minutes to pull the air box for install.......... :yesnod:
It only take 5min to remove the whole assembly out of the car. Much easer to install the gasket and make shure of a good fit. I don't doubt a 5-10hp gain. Look at my sig. Will get a new one for my 02 as the gasket glues on so I need a new one. Unless some one that diden't feel the need to use it wants to send me one;):D Ric
Ric, you already are running really rich.........you gonna do some stock runs, v.s. K & N runs??.......
The '02's as you well have heard are a LOT more free breathing than the '01's........and the addition of the K & N may make you slower, not faster.......you da' man, but something I think i would test.............just IMHO.
Carl, Very nice numbers!! Hope mine is going to put that down. Ric
Z06LS6, I have been reading most of what's said about the subject on the fourms, I do take acount of it. I think the K&N will work fine AND add some power. We shall see. Ric
