I finished my bilstein sport shock installation Friday evening and went for a long drive yesterday to test them out. I can't believe the difference. The car feels planted and confidence inspiring in turns. I didn't expect this much of a difference, but I am surprisingly impressed.
How is the ride? I use my car as a daily drver and would like to do shocks and sways upgrades but I'm affraid of getting a harsh abusive ride.
For a daily driver C6 Z51 sways and bilsteins would be great, would be a fun driver. On my daily driven C6 I have the Z51 bars, and Koni FSD shocks that makes for a sweet DD and capable when I drive the local hill country
How is the ride? Smooth? How much stiffer than stock? I have a z51 but I am still highly considering it because the price just can't be beat. Congrats on the upgrade.
I installed the Bilstein HD shocks a couple of years and it was one of the best mods I have done. I have a 01 with z51 option and the HD were a perfect fit for my type of driving/comfort needs on long trips. The HD are SLIGHTLY firmer than the stock z51 shocks which had only 30k miles on them. The car has much better control and comfort all speeds on all roads. I also installed the c5 z06 rear bar and aluminum end links with poly bushings. Two of the best mods one can make.
I got some good seat time this weekend on a variety of differnt surfaces.
The ride is stiff, but not jarring. I personally felt the z51s were much harsher than the Bils. My wife even said she felt the ride and car were more comfortable with the Bils. I see no reason why these couldn't be on a daily driver.
The biggest diffrerence I have noticed is in cornering. The z51s always left me with an uneasy feeling in turns as if I might lose traction at any moment. Now - the car is rock steady and really is a pleasure to take through the twisties.
Anyway, that is my .o2. If anyone is doing this upgrade in the near future, I have a few suggestions which may make the swap easier. I had a bear of a time with the front shocks, but finally used a pry tool (tie rod separator) to help me compress the shock. It saveed ALOT of time and effort.
