Very Close Call
Out of the corner of my eye, I see something coming, so I brake hard and pull to the right.
A good sized doe slams broadside into the drivers door, gains footing and runs back into the woods.
I pull over and, whew!, nothing but a few deer hairs stuck to the door and the mirror had closed in. Not a scratch or crack...I re-adjusted the mirror and off I went.

Gotta love country living.

We have them all over our neighborhood and they do some of the craziest things. Last year they came up on my porch and ate all my potted plants. For what it cost to replace them I could have taken my wife to Ruths Chris!

The only really hairy part of the trip home when we picked up our second C5 was a section of Illinois highway I drove at about 2-3 AM that was littered with deer carcasses, body parts and huge blood spills. The paranoia of hitting a deer finally peaked at one point when I crested a hill and ran up on a collection of body parts and blood that was impossible to avoid, as it spanned almost the entire width of both lanes. I cringed as I ran over the mess but, luckily, it had been flattened, apparently, by legions of trucks so the car only received a spattering of soft tissue and blood with no damage. A more major cleaning than I had planned was in order (thank goodness for the lift).
Years ago, I had a deer run right in front of my 300ZX and missed it. Two seconds later, a huge buck sprang right in front of me - I was doing 60. I readied my self for the impact as there was no way I would miss it. I heard a small "thump" and, by the grace of God, my wife and I were OK. It was twilight but I got out of the car to inspect any damage. I had clipped his rear hoof and it had indented the lower front bumper. I pushed it back out by hand.
A driver of a Mazda RX-7 came up and asked if we were OK. I said yes and asked about him. He walked me over to his car and showed me where the third deer had run broadside into his driver door, copmletely caving it in. We looked for the doe that hit him but could not find her.
Since then, I have had many close calls with deer, but have been lucky to avoid contact. Bringing back the second vette from Texas, I ran into a deer-slaughter zone where tractor-trailors and other vehicles had been hitting deer all night on a section of Illinois highway in the hills. The highway was littered with blood and carcasses for miles and a lot got on the vette wheel wells and undercarriage but we avoided any impacts then as well.

Maybe a set of the little deer horns hidden up front might work, used to have them on the HD dresser, I still swear they work, many a time on the back country roads I would see deer ahead and they'd run off before I got anywhere close to them.
It's a good feeling when you escape with a close call.
