I have an '01 Z51 with stock Cats, but no mufflers. I'm very surprised how quiet it is considering. Personally, I like it. It's not too loud, but has a nice rumble at WOT, but relatively calm at cruising speeds. Anybody else doing this? How much HP is gained without mufflers?
I have been running stright pipes for a wile and love it. I started out just cutting off the mufflers an keeping everything else the same but after a few months the gargel the car had after letting off the go peddle I ended up taking out my h pipe and just adding back in streight pipe from the cats all the way back. And let me tell ya what a differance!!!!!! Sounds great!!
I'm running some LG LT's with random X high flow cats and the Z06 Ti Catback system. Put some electric cutouts right before the Ti system and it is obnoxious with the valves all the way open! Really wakes up the neighbors
See my sig. I've got the borla x pipe and straight pipes so it's a pretty open system. I'd imagine your #'s would be close to mine. Just remember some back pressure is good. A true open exhaust may do more harm than good.

I'm not sure you are gaining much in terms of HP by deleting the mufflers. The stock ones are pretty decent in terms of flow (although the sound is not the best).
I'm running a magnaflow x-pipe, with straights running out the back (dual 5" resonated tips) and i love the sound. it really is quite mild since i'm not running LT's (gotta keep it carb legal).
The pipes reduce in size just before entering the muffler and again inside the muffler. If you could see a cut away you would be shocked. Muffler is definitely restrictive. Average shown on the forum seems to be 10 to about 17 HP gain.

I would be surprised if you gained that kind of power by just removing the mufflers, maybe after a tune too, but not just the mufflers. Anyone have some numbers they could post of before and after with no tune

I hope that's true since I'm totally stock except for a CAI.
I just peeked a look under her skirt and discovered I have 0 cats and a nearly straight thru muffler system. And Ive never seen headers that run 4 pipes halfway back before. I learn more about this car every time I drive it.
i run obx long tube headers on cats and i have welded in resonators off a Toyota v 8 truck sored from a local muffler shop quited it down from strait pipes but it still drones if i could killl the drone this would be the best exhaust that i have found the drone is a killer. at WOT it is like a C6R on the track.
I am running factory all the way back to my SLP Loudmouths. I like the four large tips and the sound. The bad part is once I get a set of long tubes, cats, and x-pipe it might be a little to loud....for the police not me. lol.
