Would a convertible windscreen work or be effective on a coupe? At speed we coupe owners also get a lot of wind in the car. I was wondering if anyone had any experience using a windscreen? It would be great because I know they do work. I had one in a Mercedes that was great.
just a guess on my part, but the wind on a convertible is really backlash (over the trunk) suction created by the car moving forward. in a coupe, you have the hatch to break that portion and route it over the top of the car and then backwards once again. the wind you are experiencing is downdraft from the roof panel being removed being whipped through out the interior of the car. the windscreen on the convertible is only about 7 inches above the rear deck height, so in my opinion to be effective you would have to raise it higher to "trap" the wind that goes over the top of it that swirls around in the hatch area. please appreciate these are just my impressions and opinions. the windscreen i have for my 04 convert works wonders. the t-tops removed from my 78 produce a lot of swirl in the cockpit also, but i doubt any kind of screen behind the seats would be that effective in wind reduction. with the tops off and the windows open, it might actually make it worse by giving the wind something verticle to bounce off of right behind your head. i guess the only real way to tell would be to try some sort of panel to see the effect.
It's interesting with the coupe, because at speed if you put your hand up just under the opening, not much air actually enters the car. Most of the air just flows up the windshield and straight across. Yes, it is noisy, but that's open air driving. The thing I've noticed more of is vacuum with the windows up / top off. I feel my hat pulling up sometimes. Either way, it's one of the coolest features about the coupe. Have fun - be safe - drive it like you stole it.

I have a 74 coupeas well, and the window is right behind the seats. wind hits you in the back of the head just as you theroize.
I think the mod we would need would be a wind screen on top of the windscreen? Many cars with sunroofs have them to help "push" the air over. My buddy's 300Z (Think its a 95ish) has small spring loaded flaps that pop up when the T tops are taken off, minimal turbulance with windows up...
I got one of these for free from someone who had a C5 but sold it.
It worked pretty well at reducing noise. I often get bothered by the hole where the targa prongs plug into. A lot of wind howl from that really annoys me.
The only thing more annoying was trying to put that stupid thing on. It works great but you better be planning a worthwhile cruise with the top off if you're going to bother with it...
I have used my "HATCH VENT" brackets I got from Ecklers!
They simply open the hatch about 1 1/2" and this allows air to flow through freely w/out all the noise and air disturbance
My wife and I really like the way they work and it keeps it cooler inside when you have the windows down, instead of all the air just swirling in the cab!
