I'm guessing twilight sentinal option is activated and working as commanded. Although, they should go off when light is sensed, unless that sensor is bad. Check you dic options and turn it off, see if that works. How about simple answers first. Was the system reset after the oil change?
You could have a Canadian Car, does your speedometer go to 300 ?
That's what I had for awhile, installed the resistor from the gadgetman to take care of it. With the Canadian car, you cannot disable the Twilight sentinel. You can make a resistor and install it, search the forum for instructions if you have a Canadian model.
To reset oil life monitor, turn the ignition key to the ON position but don't start the car. Press the gas pedal to the floor 3 times in a row and turn the ignition OFF. Presto!
Or you could reset it through the DIC but that's the boring way.

as for the oil change.. like i said i got it done at 8,000 miles..im at 9,000 now. how do i reset it? it says 8% oil remaining
It makes me wonder if the oil life was reset the last time your oil was changed. I would reset it now using the method stated by Patches and you should be good for a while.

That would be my guess too. And chances are you did not reset the oil life monitor when you changed the oil.

You can reset it one of two ways - with the ignition on, engine off, pump the throttle (gas pedal) three times in rapid succession. The other way - again ignition on, engine off.... bring up oil life in the trip function and hit reset.
