Default Intake cover question

I noticed that some of the intake covers out there are 2 pieces while others are only once piece. Does anyone know the reason why some are 2 pieces and do they look the same as the 1 piece when they are installed?

Thanks.

For ease of installation due to the fuel rail cross over on top of the intake...

Correct.

The single is cleaner, but requires the fuel rail to be removed.

The two piece is for non-mechanics.

Some of these covers hold in heat, which is not a good thing at the track.

How difficult is it to remove the fuel rail? I noticed the one-piece vs. two-piece design as well and was also curious.

Also, regarding the comment about holding in heat during track use, etc., what effect, if any, would this have on a painted or hydrocarbon piece?

The fuel rail lift is easy. There are (4) 10mm bolts that hold the rail to the intake manifold. Once those are loosened, lift the rail evenly straigt upward. It takes a little force to because all eight fuel injector o-rings will be reluctant to move. Make sure the injector bores are clean before starting the whole thing back down. Make sure they are aligned and press downward gently at different points. Tightening the bolts down again fully seats everything.

The main drawback to the full cover is that you have to remove it if you ever need the throttle body off, which requires the rail lift again.

The heat soak issue is such a joke on ls1tech.com (where true gearheads hang out) An aluminum intake will lose less than 10hp on a 500hp engine. My twin turbo ls1 did just fine. Don't worry about a skimpy little cover over the intake.

I had a two piece on mine - made for a very easy installation since you didn't have to mess with the fuel rails. And yes, you can see the line between the two pieces, but it does not look bad IMO.
