Ok so after about 9 years of owning my C5, I decided it was time to get some new brakes and add a little bling to the car. I’m just a poor soldier in Uncle Sam’s Army, therefore Brembo and Wilwood were out of my league. So I decided to go with some good old American made GM brakes....right When the package showed up, I was happier than an Alabama tick on a deer. Then I looked at the ACDelco box it was labled in English, Spanish and French….”MADE IN CHINA”. I thought I had been cheated since I bought them off the “internet auction site”, however I did buy them from a reputable supplier. After I got over the initial shock, I looked them over with the intensity of a “military wall locker inspection” and they do look great. The ceramic pads were at least “assembled” in the US. I did some research on the web and I did find out that, yes GM and a lot of other car manufactuers do build their brakes and alot of other vehicle components in China. It seems there are different levels of manufactuering quality coming out of China. They have everything from sweats shoppes employing 12yr olds to state of the art facilities. Heck I found out the complete C6Z brake package; rotors, calipers and all are made in China. No wonder GM can sell them for $1800 a set when Brembos cost $5000. Even Baer brakes are made in China. Oh, well I guess they will be alright. I will post photos and a write up when I complete the install.
I guess it won't be too bad, after all I was "made" in Taiwan!!!

Yeah.. I too like AMERICAN things.. I have been buying Gerber Pocket Knifes since I was in Cub scouts, Great Tools and Stated "Made in the USA" on the Package. So when my Nephew needed a birthday present I thought, I'll get him that Gerber Camping Axe he wanted. So I Bought it for him, But What does it say on the back of the Package.
"Made in China for Gerber Knifes a Division on Northwestern American Knife Company." WTF!

Kinda the Same thing no?
Yup...I believe I have one of the last generation US made Gerber Gator pocket knives. Got that sucker over 14yrs ago. I noticed sometime around the turn of the millenium the design changed. I didn't think anything of it, until I heard they were being made in China.
"Just way of the world" so to speak. Six or seven years ago I got a AC Delco oil pressure sending unit for my 79 L-48 and once I opened the delco box and the unit was out it was stamped on the bottem "Made in China" So it's just one more thing in a long line of changes 2009 ? It would of happened no matter what political party is in power.

Reason: spelling
We can thank our government for giving tax breaks to all the American companies to send our jobs to other countries. They want to destroy America, and the people we have in there are on the right track!
Still remember back in the late '80s, a friend was restoring a '57 Chevy. Has a new engine block shipped. Stamped on the block ..... Hecho e Mexico. Have been looking for wheels for my '99 coupe. Anything remotely affordable seems to be made in China.

What do you expect China bought the USA from Obama
I go O/T very seldom but anything China got from Obama are 'leftovers' from the previous admins. And without China where would our govt & industry and your wallet be financially? You got the final word on this btw.
It is an international market, parts are made all over the world. One thing to just remember, as long as quality goes in the manufacturing of a part, I really don't care where it is made. I don't like the fact that some American companies are saying "Our products are made in America, period". When the are actually made in China but assembled in the USA, doesn't make it American made. It is a new day and age, I buy what I can afford, I use the web to get the best price, if the price is to low, I question the quality for sure. I guess use your best judgement and buyer beware...
Between the EPA,labor unions and the tax structure in the USA,very few things are made here anymore! Also, as GM and Chrysler tank, many more supply companies are going down with them.
I don't know if this is how they are made or not but I thought pads had Asbestos embedded in them for the high heat. If this is the case I'm sure there is a US regulation for air borne contaminates that make it much easier to build the part in China where restrictions for Health and Safety do not exist.
FWIW,,,I'm old enough to remember when "Made in Japan" was equated with nothing but sh^t. I dfon't know if Chna wil ever acheive the quality products that now come from Japan, but even Japanese 'products' are now farmed out to places like Tawain...I guess it is a truly global economy.

Yea, I hear what you are saying about the pads, however I got the ceramic ones and it does says 100% asbestos free on the box. Can't verify if they are or not. Maybe the box is asbestos free...
