Default Do not use "dependable auto shippers"

For goodness sake do not use Dependable Auto Shippers. I got a quote from them. They were high, weren't 100% enclosed, and wanted 3 weeks after picking up a car to deliver it. They kept calling me and sending me email every day wanting to pick up the car. I told Silvia that I did not want them not to pick it up, and they did anyway! I had told the P.O. that Exotic Car Transport was going to pick it up, but he wasn't paying close attention and let the first truck to arrive take the car.

I called DAS within 3 hours of them taking it that I wanted them to bring it back. I was put on hold, for 40 minutes. I argued with them until 5 PM and then they said they didn't have any drivers who could take it back. I told DAS I'd report it stolen if they didn't return it. They said they'd bring it back in the morning, but it wasn't back until 3PM. When they brought it back it was a mess! It looked like it had been stored in a woods. It was muddy inside and out, and covered in leaves and twigs. There is also a new chip in the hood.

Use Exotic Car Transport. They are top notch, and no more expensive. They are 100% enclosed, and are very quick to deliver. I've used them twice and have been thrilled both times.

I think I would be having a few words with whoever let DAS take the car when you told them not to.

It's amazing that can even happen.....! They are idiots for picking up somebody elses property without a signed contract. You should have no trouble recovering any damages from them.

I shipped a boat from Florida to San Diego and I had to sign several papers (shipping contract, insurance waiver, etc) before they would even load the boat onto a their trailer. I was in SD and they were in Florida. The fax machine almost ran out of ink trying to get it done.

Glad it worked out for you in the long run and thanks for the heads up....

Your experience speaks volumes about Dependable Auto Shippers

I know, you would think they'd want something signed before they picked up an item. I guess they are hard up for business and are willing to cheat to get it. On the phone they keep repeating how they've been in business for 54 years - as if that means anything. We can all name a company in business for nearly 100 years that has been run into the toilet - GM.

I would have reported that thing stolen as soon as they took it without my permission! I hope they pay for your damages.

Wow, was the vette damaged in any way? I'm not sure I could handle my anger in a situation like that.
Sorry, went back and saw you had a chip in the hood.

I really don't think that would work, I am sure the trucking company had a release from the people that gave them the car. The person that released the car is the one that is wrong here.....

I too would avoid Dependable Auto Shippers (DAS). I shipped my vette from CA to MN and they did an absolutely awful job.

I scheduled my move around a vacation I was going to take. I wanted the car to get to my house before I left on vacation so I arranged the delivery date to be for 1 week in advance just to make sure it got there before I left town. The DAS rep said it would be no problem, I even explained the vacation situation.

Well two weeks after vehicle pick up in CA it had not left the transport station. I start to get nervous as my trip is approaching and it doesn't seem that the car has made any advancements to MN. I call and check on it and am told that everything is on schedule and the car will be there. I'm thinking no way so I ask "what if it isn't?" The rep says that it is not a problem because if the car arrives when I am out of town it can just sit at the transport terminal until I get back and then they will bring it over.

Sure enough, even allowing an extra week the car still does not make it to me by the time I have to leave town. I get a call on the third day of vacation saying the car is in MN and when would I like it delivered. I explain the situation and they say no problem, except there will be storage fees for the days it is sitting at the terminal. Are you F***ing kidding me? funny how the rep didn't mention this part before.

So I get back in town and have the car brought over. It has obviously sat outside for the week I was gone as it looked the way the first post guy's car looked. Covered with leaves, sticks, all around filthy. I would have really been pissed if I had paid for full enclosure because I know it would have sat outside on the lot for a week anyway.

I called DAS and explained the crappy service, extremely late delivery and hidden charges of storage. Contacting them is a pain and usually involves being on hold for 20min or longer. Eventually I got refunded the storage charges but I still would never even think about using them again.

If you don't mind your car taking a month to get from point A to point B, if you don't care about them keeping the car clean and storing it properly, if you don't care about extra charges that they don't tell you about, if you don't mind not being able to contact anyone regarding your move without being on hold for 20min, then DAS is the company for you.

I was shipping a totaled Vette for a future GTM project and I think they did a terrible job. I can't even imagine shipping a "nice" car that I actually cared about with them. Worst shipping company ever.

The guy was planning on shipping the car so his friend had the key and was told a shipping company was coming to pick it up. Not knowing the company was not supposed to be DAS the friend handed keys over without thinking it was the wrong company.
