I was driving my car today to a local car meet and im on a half tank of gas, once i arrive to the meet im still on about a half tank of gas then out of no where the low fuel light comes on and my check gauges light pops up and my gas gauge is below E but i know theirs still plenty of gas in it because i just put gas in it and the light wont go off and my gas meter wont go back to where it was. What can this be a broken gas gauge? Does this often happen to c5 z06? Someone please help me out.
there is a lot of information if you search the c5 tech section for 'fuel gauge'. Its pretty common with C%'s and it usually has to do with sulfur deposits on the sending unit.. the cheapest way to get relief usually involves adding some techiron for a few tank fulls of gas.. the most expensive option is replace the senders.. which even after that is done its a good idea to add techiron every oil change or so.

I run Chevron gas which has Techron added to it, and have never had the problem. Make sure you use a top tier gas and it shouldn't reappear after you resolve it with some Techron additive.
Im gonna try the techron, should i put it in on a empty tank or does it matter because i dont even know how much gas is in the car do to the gauge not working.

I believe it tells you on the bottle what concentration to use.
Depending on the quality of the gas you've been using (meaning how gunked up the sending unit is) you may need a couple of bottles to clear up the problem. After that, a top tier gas with Techron or an occasional bottle added to a fill up will keep it working....
Of course, the above will only work if the problem is in fact build-up on the sending unit (which is very common).
I ended up replacing mine because they were still under warranty.. I had the tech save them so I could play with them and diagnose the issue.. I hooked up a voltage meter and started playing..
under magnification you could see all the GUNK glued to the printed sending board. a tooth brush and light spirits cleaned it right up and they seemed to check out..
when I bought my '04z it had been in storage for a year and was running rough at idle. 2 bottles of techron with a half tank of gas and she smoothed out after about 40 miles. You can run a couple bottles in one tank for a little extra cleaning strength.
