when i was in high school and in ffa, the girls from those 2 towns caught alot of grief with the town names on their jackets

If you haven't already, read "Blue Highways : A Journey into America" by William Least Heatmoon.

Great book and on his journey across America he seeks out and visits many towns with strange sounding names.
