How difficult and what's needed? I'm looking to remove mine for painting. I did attempt a search, but either there are no threads detailing what's involved, or (more likely) I'm too tired and missed it. Anyone done this that can help?
umm - mine didn't pop out; the clips were attached to the bumper cover pretty good and the screens are bolted into the clips. I had to use several ratchets/attachments to get them out, four little bitty screws...dang process took hours and I cussed a lot...who knows, maybe I missed something and was doing it wrong but just wanted to give you another view point!

Wow, My car is an 01. Could that have something to do with it? I had to replace the whole front recently. The only screws behind the bumper, other than the lights assemblies, was for the wire harness. I had ordered new screens from GM (mine were destroyed) and all that came with them was four clips, two for each screen, to install them. Now when I installed the Vararam, that had screws...but that is a totally different story!
It has to be the year of the car(s) that makes the difference. Anyways, to the OP, If it is like my man, 2Tone82, here says, I would also recommend just taping it off and painting, just like soundman69 says.
It would be best to get powder coated screens. I didn't want to fight the Vararam to get to mine, so I just painted them. I taped off everything and sprayed them black. It came out great. They do chip however. A little touch up with a black paint pen or a sharpie keeps them looking good.
