Introducing the 2012 Corvette!
It will be powered by a three cylinder super charged alloy motor, Hecho en Mexico, generating 200 horsepower. 0 to 60 times are said to be in the high 12 second range. With an EPA fuel milage of 40 city and 50 highway miles per gallon. The price is expected to be approximately $75,000.00. It will be the top of the line GM product. The president of the United States and General Motors says he is pleased with the "green" aspect of the new car.
Yeh what bucwheat said....C8 (I think the OP doesn't know a ton about vettes) But what is really funny is that the original poster stumbled on to a partial truth. The new C7 will have to meet tougher federal regulations that state the entire line up or "average" of the fleet of cars your selling must be 35mpg. GM knew this back in the day of when even the first C6 was rolling off the showroom floor. The corvette team said that the new generation C7 was focusing on gas economy while retaining corvette muscle. Last instead scoop was that they had achieved this plus some...they hit 42mpg. No word on yet if the hp/tq has remained the same or increased. I like many others can't wait to see what team corvette has up their sleeves. GM needs a swift abupt & fast change and producing a car that could hit these numbers and still be powerful would definitely catch some peoples eyes.

As the "OP" I must explain my post a bit. First, having owned Corvettes for over 50 years I am fully aware of the generations. C-1, C-2 shorthand didn't exist until about the 1980's when the Corvette magazines started using short cuts in articles.
I deliberatey skipped the C-7 so most of you would see this as a joke. But some of you may, as I do, be thinking that this "new ruler" will indeed screw up GM with politics. Our today's paper had an interesting commentary on what politics may do to stymie any real changes within the GM management. It is also possible that the new model, Corvette and others, introductions could be delayed now that they are "officially" in bankruptcy. GM's Lutz said last night on TV that the Corvette will still be there. We'll see.
I personally don't think GM will survive against the foreign car manufacturers mainly due to GM's untenible labor contracts. Remember GM's union has a, what, 20-30 percent ownership now. Now that GM is government "owned" it will be easier for them to keep coming back for more money. It's $50 B. so far. The politics of government intervention, union control and upper management rigidity will probably lead to the demise of GM in the not too distant future.
Ideally, I would love to see the Corvette line, and the Bowling Green plant, spun off as an independant car manufacturer; owned by some rich entrepreneur that loves corvettes, like Jay Leno...
