Default dim display

The temperature display has dimmed to the point where I can hardly see it. Are there any ideas as to the cause or better yet a fix?

Thanks

Here's a link to the DIY fix for this. Worked great for me, although I really really burned my fingers when I stupidly decided to hold my soldering wand closer like a pen to get a steadier hold on it... <SSSSSSSSS!>

Thanks!!! I was ready to run out to radio shack and by a soldering pen but figured I would try a "Fonzy". I tapped it and the display was once again visible. I don't know how long this "fix" will last. I will say that I'm happy it worked

No worries. You will want to do the re-soldering on it (or buy a new climate control module) eventually, as the core problem is that these are bad solders points on the surface mount resistors, and given entropy, are not going to get better on their own. You will likely find that after some vibration and/or heat that the display will go dim again.

If you follow the procedure outlined above, you should be able to fix it permanently for no cost other than the iron and small amount of solder. If you are not confident in your soldering skills, 90% of the work involved is just taking the module out of the car, once it's out just take it and the procedure above to someone who does know how to solder and they can do it in 5 minutes (which is approximately how long it took me when you subtract the time I spent bandaging my fingers and thumb...). Good luck!

If you're afraid to do the soldering, I'm happy to do it for you if you pay for shipping each way.

Yes you need to resolder it but they instructions on the forum are great and easy to follow. I did it and I have 2 left hands! Mine works great. I bought a battery operated iron at radio shack that worked the best. Takes about 2 hours total in and out.
Good luck.
