the security light only goes on after hitting a bump or a bumpy road (if that makes sense) thoughts....
oh and I have to pull over in fear that the car will lock up .. so if Im on a major hightway, pull over on shoulder. Turn the car off pull the key out and restart. Then it will go away.
A heavier key fob will wear the ignition switch out faster, simple friction. The issue is that the pellet is making intermittant contact with the sensor that reads it in the ignition switch, thus causing the security light to flash occasionally. If the ignition switch wasn't reading te pellet during start up your Vette wouldn't start...
Dirty or worn pellet or a dirty/worn ignition switch are the main culprits for this...
Had the same problem on a trip. I carry a spare key in my wallet. Swapped them out, cleaned the old one and it was fine.
Replaced both keys a year back and no problem since then.
I agree. If cleaning doesn't help, try a new key, they do wear out.
Also weight of keys is a factor. IF you must carry those many keys, get a "two part" key ring and disconnect all other keys from ignition key when driving. This is the solution I told my daughter.

Good luck !
where can I get a new key and how do they set the chip.
I hrard it is a pain in the @@s
so far so good hit a bump and no security light came on ... next Major Deagan to Yankee Stadium to see how it handles .... took rubbing alcohol and a Dremel with a buffer pad and cleaned the crap out of the key.
fingers crossed would hate to get stranded on the way to the game.

Good News: well was at the Yankee game yesterday, awesome game Yanks won.... Bad News: Security light came on again, going to look to get a key. Heres the question:
1- Where should I go to get the key ie Mid America]
2- How do I get the VAT tagged to my car?]
Its possible that the key;s pellet might be worn as has been discussed. It might also be the internal contacts at the end of the ignition switch. If you look in the Tech section at the top sticky area, Bill Curlee has some excellent pictures of this area. What's required is a Tech 2 to tell the BCM what the new key's chip resistance is, if you buy a new key. There is a manual method for doing this same thing but I no longer have my manuals.

I would just go to a local key shop - they should be able to read your key so they know which one you have. Once they cut the new key you should not have to do anything other than put it in and go

Chips are numbered 2 to 13 I think. Go to Fleabay and look for a VATS double sided corvette key. Some of the venders have a chart that shows what resistance corresponds the each key. If you dont have an ohmmeter get one for $2 or $3 at Harbor Freight.
Get the key cut at a locksmith for less than $2. If they want MORE tell em to get lost. Don't go to Home Depot or Kmart. Get it done right.
Keys cost about $10 if I remember correctly. Don't get gyped at a high priced locksmith or the dealer.BIGHANK
