Default First time at the track C5Z

made 5 passes, but could not get it where I wanted. I tried slipping the clutch, but when I did this the clutch would continue slipping on its own throughout the gears.

So instead of slipping, i just launched from various RPMs (idle to 2500) with a very fast release and kept getting 2.1 60s.

Best time of the day was a 12.579@ 113.29 2.14 short time.

Best MPH was 114.23

Houston TX, about 92 degrees out.

I wanted to baseline it before my cam install, but looks like i might need to do a clutch first... it has never slipped until today.

The passes were on my 03 z06. LG street headers, b&b bullets, modified stock airbox with a fram air filter lol. Needs an updated tune. Oh, and stock wheels with 50% treadlife Firestone Firehawk tires@ 27psi hot.

the trap speed is where it should be though. just get some tires and soon, a clutch.

So were the t1rs just better for launching or all around better? I ask because this car had the firehawks on when i bought it. I dont have alot of confidence driving it... it constantly drifts when I am trying not to lol

mine still have alot of tread so i will keep them for now. But I am in the market for OEM c5z (2) wheels to mount a set of M/Ts on. I will keep the Firestones/firehawks for the street until they die.

That's a good idea, to get the wheel tire drag combo. I figure, if your going to beat your car up, at least give it a chance to give you a decent e.t. I would suggest getting a new clutch in there, like yesterday. When doing so, if you don't already have a rear/trans strut brace, put one in there. Also, you might consider the front Z wheel, for your drag wheel and tire. Seems that you have a better chance of not breaking things w/ the 17" set up. I was able to hit hi 11's w/ your set up and d/radials. good luck.

Now that's a good idea. A good set of 17" drag radials (M/T or Hoosiers) will make a world of difference

Have fun and best of success next time out

UNBELIEVABLE difference!!!!!.....a pair of front 17" stocker Z wheels and 275/40/17 M/T ET Street drag radials....You will NOT regret the purchase!!! But they will absolutely WRECK your clutch to its DEATH if the thing's already slippin'!!!!

my car came with the firehawks as well, I thought they were decent until I put on a set Kumho Ecsta MX's, what a difference in traction! The firestone is a decent daily driver tire, but nothing else.

Crap, I'd be smilin if I could get a 12.5 with my Z......12.90 is the best I can manage with PS/2's.........horrid 60's always.....MPH about the same though....113.6.......no headers on mine......stock everything except a Vararam....should I be disappointed? Course I've only ever made 3 passes when I got the car last year, and they were in Oct. in Canada.....which can be a little cool........

It's all about how well you get out of the gate, work on your launching skills and you'll get faster

you'll get better once you get more used to it.. first time i ran my 01 z (bone stock) was a 13.2 @ like 107ish. i ended up getting new street tires and vararam, got me down to 12.6x. just getting used to it. i ended up w/ vararam and et streets only and got to 12.17@114 w/ my 01, so you have potential.

Launch at 3500 rpm's after a smoky burnout. should work, worked for me.

I am very familiar with the MT radial streets. My 93 mustang with a very low power 302 and a 5 speed ... 373 gears. 265/60/15 MT et street radials with 25psi... my first 4k launch yanked the front tires 12 to 16" off the ground... man i was smiling! I did not smoke them either, just a quick spin to clean em off.

Front end dropped immediately though as the car did not have enough power to keep it up. I think my worst 60ft on them was a 1.8 (no burnout).

It just takes practice. I have 100+ passes under my belt (only 5 on this z06). When i first started it was 2.2- 2.3 60s ... then eventually got to 1.90 ish with decent street tires ... 1.6-1.7s with drag radials.

The day i was at the track, was a C5 that could not break into the 14s... he launched horribly (either bogged it or spun like crazy) and shifted very slow.

I also tried to slip the clutch on my first time out to the track. I think my garage smelled like burnt clutch for about a month after that.
