Default LOW Oil Light

I was running some errands this morning and the LOW OIL message came on. How bad is this? I have a 2001 Z06... The car has about 3k miles and I have had it for 1 month today...

Also, I have a Haltec Intake on it (NON-bottom feeder)... When I take it to the dealership, so you think they will say anything about it? Should I put the factory airbox on before I take it to the dealer? Can this "void" my warranty?

Why would you take it to the dealer? Add some oil, bring it up to the full mark, and then monitor it closely for the next 1000 miles. Have you never checked the dipstick?

I was going to check the oil when I got back from running errands, but I have an important meeting and I am dressed to the hilt in my suit, so leaning on a dirty car would probably not be good. I hate dressing up...

I could put oil in it no problem, I didn't know at what level that warning message came on at. I would prefer not to go the the dealer. I think I will take your advice..

thanks.

Low oil light comes on!! it means time to add some more to it. If it just came on, you're about a quart low. That happened to me once, I had never seen it again. My 01 Z06 burnt about a quart anywhere between 3-5K miles (depends on how I drive the car); I don't have any problem with that at all.

There're no point taking it into the dealer, unless you burnt a quart every 500-1000 miles. JMO.

Excuse me??? I check it every weekend when I detail the car. I just have never had it come on in the month I have had it. I thought there could be something wrong since 5 days ago it was fine and 200 miles later the low oil message comes on. When I left work today it was fine and when I got home the oil level was the same. For some reason it came on, but the oil level was fine.

Thanks for judging me.... :mad :mad

Hey, I didn't mean to offend you in any way. If I did I'm sorry. But you never mentioned before that the oil level on the dipstick was the same so I thought you had experienced some oil consumption but you never bothered to check the dipstick. Where is the oil level now?

No problem. Were cool..

The oil is draining as I type. I am doing an oil change right now. I bought the car a month ago with 1900 miles on it. It sat on a dealer floor for 4 months after the original owner traded it in after owning it for 2 months (He got an 02 with 0%). The car was only started and driven once in those 4 months. I have put 1000 miles on it in the month I have had it. I figure this would be a good time to change the oil and monitor it, since the car had sat for so long and probably has never had the oil changed.

Mine came on today at 2000 miles, Im not surprised it used to come on at 3k miles on my 2000. Just add 1qt and off you go.

My Low Oil Light came on as well and i have about 5k miles on my car.
All i did was add some oil .....and Walla! no more Oil Light :blueangel:

I have heard the whole deal about the problems with the 2001 Z06 using alot of oil and people taking them in to have them fixed...does this only do this for the first few thousand miles ? So far i havent seen the Low Oil light again :p:

Any info appreciated !

Watch out though.... my low oil message flashed across the info display and I checked it. Guess what? NO oil in the pan AT ALL. Yeah, that was within 500 miles of a supposed oil change. Which they suddenly don't have on record at the dealer. Cute.

Anyway - I say don't rely on the sensors. I'm used to having to check my cars out regularly since my other one is a 440hp NA camaro (built for boost - P-1 coming late this year I think). And I got duped into thinking that a brand new high-tech car like a C5 wouldn't have the half-butt issues that another car might. :nopity But just stay on top of it and y'all should be fine. :chevy
