im looking at a 2000 corvette hardtop. anything to look for? problems? common errors? also do they come with the z51 package and HUD? thanks everyone for your previous help. i know i post alot of questions but just looking for the right corvette for me. thanks again
I've had my 2000 Hardtop since Sep99 and right at the 1-yr mark, Aug/Sep 2000, I had to have a bad ground repaired, and was towed with the column-lock, and had the BCM replaced. All 3 items excellently repaired by the dealership under warranty. Vette has been flawless ever since. I currently have just shy of 55k on it and planning on a Rte66 cruise next month with no concerns about its reliability. Got my AAA just in case. As I do not run run-flats.
I have a 1999 all black with 38,000 miles on it. I've had two well known issues: battery acid leakage and the damage it causes and the steering wheel lock issue. Both fixed with hand tools and the right parts (HVAC Vacuum tubing, Optima Red Top Battery, and a Corvettes of Houston steering wheel lock bypass device). Car has been bullet proof in 4 years of ownership. Should really look at the lower sills for a lot of excessive paint dings/chips. A few of the FRCs were raced and some on this forum have said a lot of racing shows up in excessively chipped paint behind the rear wheels and under the doors. great car to 'hot rod' or keep it cherry. A lot of 1999 FRC's come with minimal options (Power driver's seat, Bose stereo, no Auto HVAC). The 2000's had a lot more options such as HUD, sport seats, etc. So a 2000 will have more luxury options. Good choice, great car. I don't have my Black Book handy but I believe FRCs were the C5 models with the lowest production numbers so it's a little rare to see one. Kind of unique C5 with a dubious history (Sales flop). Good luck!

Bought my 2000 FRC about 18 months ago,,,love it!!18 months, and almost 15,000 miles of smiles! Only a few little "typical" C5 glitches,,Dim HVAC display(fixed myself) and "Pull key ,wait 10 seconds/ service column lock" stranding(installed a CLB myself and fine ever since). Ive turned 13.08/110.23 at test and tune,,conversely get low 20's mpg with short/skip shifting in city driving and close to 30mpg on some not to conservative highway trips. The wife loves this car for travel!! What is not to love about these cars!!
I've had my 99 frc since 05 bought it with 55,000 miles now has 138,000 miles. I commute 125 mi round trip everyday. Wouldn't have another car. It gets with a light foot around 30 mpg on hwy. Love it. Only problem since I had it was the steering lock, dealer fixed it no problems since.
I"ve had my 99FRC for just over a year...things were great until last week. Blew the driver side differential seal. That seems to be common but not a major deal. But then the column lock kicked in as they took it off the lift...yes the recasll was done but not the definitive fix. As ai was lazy and took it to the dealership i'm now waiting for the GM replacement relay from back East. I'll be doing the aftermarket fix as soon as I get my car back...
Still I have fallen in love with the beast..and I came from a supercharged E36 M3
