Couple of questions. The dealer told me that the button to open the gas flap does not work, said you have to open it from the trunk. Has anyone experienced this? And if so, what was the problem?
Secondly, unfortanatly, I have to drive it some 500 miles to get it home as it is out of state. Can't afford to deliver it and my X-terra isnt able to use Uhaul's car trailors. Is it a must that I use the highest octane fuel? If so, would it be ok to use the mid range until I got back? We will have to be driving two vehicles back and trying to keep costs down.
Thanks for any help everyone. I know I will have some more questions....!
I would only use high test, as you will get the best highway mileage out of your new C5 and autos get high 20's and the MN6 usualy around 30ish so economy is not a problem. Have not had the issue with the opening of the gas flap and you will be able to open it in the hatch
As for the fuel question, are you serious? If you figure 500 miles at say, 25 m.p.g. that's 20 gallons of gasoline. If premium costs $0.25 more per gallon vs. regular, that amounts to a whole $5.00 difference.

If you're getting the car from a dealer . . have him FIX the fuel door . .it's not an uncommon problem, but is a PIA, so needs to be fixed.
And why run anything but the recommended fuel? It won't hurt the car short term, but like the fuel door - -get it right from the start.
And ask a mod to move this threat to the C5 forum - -apporpriate for your car...you'll get better answers.
Congrats! I agree, think you should try to get the dealer to fix the fuel door problem, could be something as simple as the connector just coming loose under the switch, dealt with that before.

Using mid grade fuel oppossed to premium may save you about 35¢ on a 500 mile trip. ;
Put the proper fuel in there. You'll probably be getting 30mpg all the way home.
Hopefully the fuel door isnt going to be to bad of a fix. Not going ot ask the dealer to fix it as I am getting a great deal. They are fixing a couple other things, so it's all good in my eyes.
Anyway, is there anything else I should know about these?
A fact I always found interesting with these 03 Anniversary Edition cars is they accounted for one third of the Corvette's production in 2003. The paint is very nice on these with gold metal flake in the red paint.

I'll agree on getting the dealer to fix the fuel door problem - may just be a bad switch, but who knows. Reaching inside the trunk to open the fuel door is a PITA.
As for the fuel, yes, you can run mid-grade, but for the price difference, it's not worth it. I'd run the premium fuel in it - you'll get better performance and gas mileage.

Just wondering, whats a good deal?? I picked my 03, up in November with 38K on the clock for $22,000 out the door. How many miles does yours have?? As far as the fuel door switch, there are a lot of threads on pull the console apart. Its not hard to do. You can try jumping out the switch to see if the switch is the problem. Good luck, and love your baby use a premium to tier fuel.

Hey, if you are buying this from a dealer he is getting plenty of profit from the sale for sure. Don't feel sorry for him! Get the fuel door fix before you leave the dealership, you won't be sorry! Make him give you a full tank of gas too!
Get the dealer to fix it,what if the trunk gas door release don't work either?Use High test this car is worth it and it will keep your injectors cleaner.

though not rare (in production numbers) ... one of the sexiest looking C5's ever produced.
