Well I am having an issue that has just came about in the past couple days. My car makes just over 430whp/400ft-lb with a mild cam and ported stock heads. While running it hard the other day i noticed on my 3-4 shift when I got back on the gas in 4th after hammering the shift (peddal to the floor mind you) the rpms slipped downward from like 5,500rpms for 4k ish before the car began to accelerate again. Felt similar to tire spin but my car dead hooks in 1st @ these power levels with the 555R's out back so I highly doubt they spun the 3-4 shift.
Would you guys says this is a slipping clutch issue? It is stock clutch from what I know and I know stock clutch prob isnt meant to hold that much power, so Im thinking it may be time to upgrade. I tried the ranger method and nothing, although he does have me a little frightened about swapping the clutch from his PM to me the other day. I do not drive the car daily but I drive it often mainly street with a few passes per year maybe. I would like to retain its street manners as much as possible bc of the stop and go here around town but also want something that is going to hold up, especially if I throw this bottle on the car and pill it for 100 shot, but I may not so...
What clutches are people at these levels having great success with? Ive heard hit and miss stories about Ls7, spec, and monster clutches. Money isnt really the issue as long as it will not create an issue for the vehicle, but Id like to keep it under or around $1,000 if possible.
If there is something else maintenance wise I should try please let me know also if there are any rear end mods I should do after clutch that would help too, please let me know them.
Your clutch is definitely slipping. Is it possible that the disc or flywheel could have been glazed a little by oil? If not, I'd say it's time for a new clutch and all related goodies to include a diff/trans strut brace. Good luck.
