Default column lock question

How do you tell if your car has the column lock bypass installed? I've had 3 c-5s and never had the problem but would like to head off trouble before it happens My car is a 99 auto coupe!
Thanks, Dave

Can you turn the wheel when the key is out? If you can I believe the bypass is is installed.

I thought if you can turn your wheel with the key out of the ignition, then the dealer has done the recall.

and if the dealer did do the recall, then they also set the fuel cut-off at 2 mph

Here's why in THIS case. Car is an A4 so the lock ring should have been replaced with a cam orientation plate when the GM recall service was done. Once the lock ring is removed the column no longer locks.

Even if the car was an Mn6 or M12 the lock ring may have replace with the cam orientation plate if variation 04006C was done to the car.

Looking is the ONLY way to know with 100% accuracy...
Not True...... If you can turn your wheel with the key out and it dosnt lock you have one or the other. The CLB keeps pin retracted all the time and with the k-harness the pin will actuate but will not lock because the lock plate has been changed.......

OP said "Column Lock Bypass",not dealer recall.

I'm thinking you're better off with the column lock motor out of the circuit completely, which is what the CLB does.

If the column lock motor(pin actuator) is still operating, lock plate or not,you can hear it.
