column lock question

column lock question
How do you tell if your car has the column lock bypass installed? I've had 3 c-5s and never had the problem but would like to head off trouble before it happens
My car is a 99 auto coupe!

Can you turn the wheel when the key is out? If you can I believe the bypass is is installed.

None of the above....
The only way to know if there is a CLB installed is to drop the drivers knee kick panel and look. Here.s what a CLB will look like:

Here's why in THIS case. Car is an A4 so the lock ring should have been replaced with a cam orientation plate when the GM recall service was done. Once the lock ring is removed the column no longer locks.
Even if the car was an Mn6 or M12 the lock ring may have replace with the cam orientation plate if variation 04006C was done to the car.
Looking is the ONLY way to know with 100% accuracy...

I'm thinking you're better off with the column lock motor out of the circuit completely,which is what the CLB does.
If the column lock motor(pin actuator) is still operating,lock plate or not,you can hear it.
