Gunny, the same as you would picking anything else. See what activities they like to do, racing, shows, partying, or just sitting around BSin'. Most likely they're going to pick you for membership after a couple of meetings or gatherings. You'll know soon enough if they're your type of crowd.
Most people in the corvette clubs have great personalities and love to talk. Just sit back and enjoy yourself! Make sure you bring back some great pictures to post!
Just go and have fun, you will know fairly quickly if they are the type of people you want to hang around with. (ie values, morals and the such) I have meet some truly great people who drive corvettes and I have meet some a holes who drive corvettes.
Just a quick story. When I went looking at a local corvette club I went to a car show they were co-hosting, well I was working on that Saturday so I went in uniform ( I am a sergeant with a county sheriff's dept). They could have not been nicer to me. Offered me a cold soda and a hot dog. Well this show was a 2 day event (not just a car show but kind of like a small county fair) so next day I go back dressed in sweat shorts and a tank top with a 2 day beard, sunglasses and a ragged out old NASCAR hat. Well to say the least they did not remember me from the day prior and just kind of brushed me off and did not give me the time of day. Needless to say I saw their true colors on day 2 and did not join that club.
Good luck with your selection.
Oh and by the way I am a member of the "Corvette Forum Corvette Club"
