I'm moving from FT Campbell KY to Monterey CA next week. I'm looking forward to cruising the coast but am a little hesitant on some of the local Cali restrictions. I hope I don't get in too much trouble while I'm there.
Monterey is b.e.a.u.t.i.f.u.l. We lived in a town that is like 40 minutes away from Monterey called Soledad, and we used to go to the beach every other weekend or at least once a month with my family, but my parents decided to move to sucky Kansas, so I'm kinds stuck here for a little while longer. You need to take the vette to Laguna seca raceway man! While you are there, if it's still open, check a club called Planet Gemini or Planet ultra lounge, and a good radio station to listen to is 102.5 kdon.

I grew up on the Penninsula. Be sure to hit the Baja Cantina at Mid Carmel valley. Cool place, good food and the guy has a ton of gearhead stuff on display. You'll be there by the Historic Race and Pebble Beach Concours weekend next month. Baja fills up with outrageous cars then. Maybe I'll see ya in October for the ALMS weekend at Laguna. I make it down there every year for a couple weeks.
Don't worry about it. Looks like the long tubes are the only thing and most smog places don't even look. Highway Patrol on the other hand is out trying to get revenue. Try not to give them the excuse.
Driving the coast is like nothing else. You'll have fun no matter what speed you're going.
You did just miss a run put on by Monterey Corvettes. It was fun.
There's a lot of military still in Monterey. The Post Grad school, Defense Language school at the least is still there I think. Another cool place to check out is Bruce Canepa's race museum up in Scott's Valley, a short cruise up to the Santa Cruz area. Really good collection of all sorts of Go Fast toys. http://www.canepa.com/collection/museum_2/index.html
