So I am being gifting a set of slightly used 2007 C6 Z06 shocks and sway bars. I figure they are an upgrade to the stock equivalents on my 2003 C5 Z06.
I've tried to search the forum and it seems the shocks are slightly better but I have found no extensive feedback on the sway bars. I've seen some people mention oversteer / understeer issues so I am curious to get some reports by first hand testers, or at least really educated guessers.
I see that the front sway bars are only 1mm larger in diameter and spring rate is only 5 lbs different. The rears are the big question. The C6 Z06 is 4.3mm larger diameter and 68 lbs srping rate difference. I've seen it stated that this may cause issues with spirited driving (I think with oversteer?).
Mostly I and on the street but may do some road race, autocross. Only plan on using stock tires, or at least nothing track specific. Any thoughts / guidance / experience? Thanks!
I am no expert but I think that with that much increase in the rear, it will overcome your stock sized tires and you will encounter more oversteer situations...
Keep the shocks. Sell the bars. 1mm front and 4mm rear. That is not an improvement. It will work against you. It will oversteer more with more rear bar. The car is already easy to create oversteer just playing with tire pressure and the throttle.
I put 04 Z06 shocks on my other 02 Z06. I liked them. On this 02 Z06 I went with coil-overs. On both cars I have used T1 sway bars. They are a serious upgrade. Unless you plan on doing track events. Just leave the stock bars alone or upgrade them with something that is a matched set. If you use T1 bars you could use the stock end links to keep the noise down. T1 bars will change the car. Body roll will be all but gone. You can also try something like Hotchkis (sp?) bars at a decent price.
I upgraded my '01 bars to Hotchkis, I don't recall what the rated spring wt's are but it was a hugh improvement on the street and on my favorite ride up and down the Pacific Coast Hwy. I don't track my '01 so it never gets to its limits but I've really enjoyed the improved stiffness both front and rear. I know a great suspension guy in Santa Barbara who set up the alignment after I lowered the car about 1.25 inches, and with a set of Baer Eradispeed rotors the ride to Monterey is just great fun!
