A Tire Tale

On May 24, 09, Memorial Day weekend, I was stranded with bad Run Flat tire, with 1400 miles to go to CT, and with a 4 yr old child in tow. AAA road service led me to a Firestone dealer, located at 3812 S Nova Rd., Port Orange FL. (exit 156 off Rt# 95N)
Since my rear tire was not a common size, and they didn't have one in stock, the manager of this dealership bent over backwards to help me. He called all over the place to find a tire for me, but to no avail. Some calls may even have been long distance.
Finally, and reluctantly he sent me to a nearby dealer, a stone’s throw away, and just around the corner, who had 2 Eagle F1s, which a customer never picked up. This dealer was “Tire Kingdom,” located at 899 Dunlawton Ave. (FL Rt3 421) Port Orange FL. The “Kingdom” received me as their Court Jester, and fleeced me to the tune of -> $507.09, for a single Eagle F!.
The manager at Firstone probably knew that my wallet would receive the "Holiday Weekend Back Against the Wall" treatment, which it did. By contrast, the Firestone manager wouldn't even accept payment for all his trouble, or for taking of my wheel and reinstalling it. This is a helpful and honest establishment, and If I lived in the area, it would be my exclusive merchant for tires. First Class!
Lesson Learned. Try to avoid long distance travel on holidays. If long distance travel is indicated I wouldn't’ move an inch without Run Flats. At least the Run Flat brought me to a where I could get help. Indeed, I was gauged by “Tire Kingdom,” at 899 Dunlaton Ave., Port Orange, FL, but that was better than the potential damage caused by towing, or by dragging the Corvette onto a flatbed.

That we should find ourselves at the same Firestone dealer, it's a small world. The fellow who tried to hlp me was from Norwalk CT. Perhaps it as he, as well, who tried to help you. GRT
