I am looking into getting an Ipod/MP3 hook-up installed. I don’t really want to tear into the dash myself. I have not worked on a car stereo since the early 80’s. So, I went to a local accessory shop that specializes in auto electronics. I know some one there. The gave me a price of $200 total to do the install. That is with all the cables and adaptors needed as well as the tax out the door. Can you guys tell me if this is a good price? I was told that it would take about 90 minutes to complete and I can stand there and watch if I would want. I would have the cabel come up into the center console so I could just put the ipod/mp3 there out of site. Any opinions or comments are needed to help me with my decision.
Do you have the stock radio? I am using a $10 cassette adaptor for mine and I'm very happy with the quality. If you have a cassette player you can go that route. As far as pricing goes, there are a lot of threads just like this one in the Audio/Electronics section of the forum. You could probably search in there and find an answer very quickly.
Personally I would not pay $200 for the install. The center console is held in with a total of 7 screws and you could very easily do it yourself. The adaptor required for a stock head unit is quite pricey though (around $100 I think) so the other $100 is labor that is just plug and play.
If you have the 12 disc GM changer all you need is a Peripheral iSimple ISGM73. All you have to do is plug it into the changer and just run the supplied cable up to the front. Easy as pie. Took me all of 5 minutes from start to finish.
The product is available through Best Buy but I got mine online from a place called Crutchfield. Much cheaper and got it quickly too.
I too have a cassette player/12CD setup. I too want the Ipod conversion, but I also want to keep the 12CD as well, hey we can send a man to the moon, why not as for it on earth. Does anyone know of some kind of electronic switch so we can load the Ipod to some kind of 'Y' cable with the 12CD in the rear. I'm told if you go with the Ipod, you have to give up the 12CD player (good news is dumping the 15lbs 12CD player for a few oz. Ipod). Ipod can give you a couple of hundred songs, what to do...

C5 Corvette IPod Install
Check it out, and save yourself some $$. I also figured out how to modify it so it does not drain your battery for cars like mine that does not see daily driving.
I'm not sure why anyone would want to hide the iPod away in the center console. The head unit will not be able to tell you which song out of the thousands of possible songs you can store on an Ipod you're listening to. Not to mention it gets pretty hot in the center console.

You can put it anywhere you like. Thats the beauty of the long cable thats supplied. For me I just put it on random play and If i'm not in the mood that song I just hit the head unit to go to the next song. I also like it being hidden to keep the interior of the car clean looking.
This gives a nice wireless connection to the stock Delco radio. It works great and I have a second receiver and Aux-Box in my Cadillac so I can easily take the MP3 player in either car. I also have a third receiver connected to my home stereo system so can play MP3 player wirelessly at home. I'm very satisfied with this setup. If you would like I can send details and pictures.
