Default Are you considering a car care buffer ??

I receive alot of PM's and emails weekly asking about buffers and it amazes me at how many individuals dont have a buffer for paint care or use those old single speed big headed buffers we commonly see on sale for 25.00 around Xmas time. The great part is they are actually considering the change.

There is a big difference in buffers, and none are created equally. Alot of individuals have considered the move to a Random Orbital Buffer due to their offer of safety and abilities for minor paint correction and repair. They are also quite easy to use and so most could use them immediately with nice results and certainly better than hand application and removal.

The Porter Cable 7424/7336 (often called PC) is likely the most popular offering. It offers the ability to change pads / change backing plates / and speed sensitivity by dial. This is more than just a wax remover, and with the correct polish and pads can do alot of work even harder correction work. Sure some patience and care is needed, but no hard learning curve. It seems like everyone built upon this successful unit and likely not the first on the scene but became the Kleenex of Tissues.

Now we have two new (and one updated) buffers upon us that still offer all the benefits of the PC but with greater power and abilities. In testing these units are far more advanced than just a quick update or more orbits. The motors, chassis, and such really have been updated and offer alot more bang for the same buck. These buffers that really are the best of the best in entry level cost yet high performers. Early reviews suggest these units dont bog down as easily and really are indeed ready to help with proper finish care for your vehicles.

There is no wrong choice, and this certainly will replace the old Waxmaster with a machine that offers many benefits and uses. We at Autogeek have also designed many packages to work with these buffers and offer the correct pads and polishes too as needed. So if you are looking for a buffer, consider these for your needs and call us as wanted for help designing a package thats right for you.

And for those looking for circular polishers, and higher end random orbitals (like the Flex) we carry those too.

I'm thinking of ordering the PC. Would that and the "Dual Action Deluxe CCS Foam Pad Kit" be a good starter kit for a person who already has all the polishes?

Just got done using my Porter Cable 7424, had it for 10 years and the heat build up in the unit was incredible today (danm near burned my hand and I had to let is cool off between aps), I don't remeber it ever getting as hot as it did today....Maybe time to look at the Porter Cable 7424XP.

Will my 6 inch backing plate that is installed on my Porter Cable 7424
work with the "XP"? Is a lager counter weight required?

FYI, I'm using 3M products and Wolfgang Concours Series Pads .

Thanks, in advance!
Kevin

Indeed a great kit for those with polishes. As a minimum I suggest two of each pads, orange/white/grey or blue along with machine. Smaller size pads and backing plate make easier work with PC also.

The original PC does get quite warm, but would not think getting burnt is a good idea. As with any power tool some down time for cooling is good advice. I have never found any need to replace the counterweight and certainly wont cool things IMO. Sounds like an XP with the better motor and chassis might indeed be a good choice and cool you down as you go. (smiles)

I've got the Griots and couldn't be happier. I'm also using the Griots polishes and waxes and they hold up really well..

Are the Griot's and Meguire's machines true random orbitals or "jigglers?"

I've been on the fence about getting a machine polisher for a long long time but with business picking up, I may give in.

My car is Arctic White... probably the most flat, dull white I've ever had on a car. Without any deep color or metal flecks in my paint, will I notice any difference between a $20 wax and a $100+ fancy one (aside from longevity)? This is one of the reasons I've held off on a machine polisher for so long... I'm not convinced that my plain white paint will really benefit. I'm sure there's swirls in the paint, but unless the car is under a florescent bulb you really can't see them, and in the sun the white is blinding.

white paint does indeed hide some lighter scratches and markings but can usually be seen by looking at paint in direct sunlight while off-axis or from side. All paint can be put into a better position by polishing which often times not only removes the old waxes/sealants and small scratches but it also amps up the gloss and reflection. White is often hard to get really wet looking , but with proper polishing and the proper wax or sealant can indeed show plenty of gloss which mimics wetness.

Any suggestion for a specific sealant or wax that can make my white stand out? Also, can you tell us if the two other machines are true random orbitals? I guess it doesn't make a huge difference if they all get the job done, but inquiring minds would like to know.

The Flex 3401 and Cyclo (dual headed) machines are also random orbitals but higher priced. If you can afford the Flex it truly is about the best option in Random Orbitals and offers an amazingly powerful motor and 9600 orbits. The Cyclo is a dual headed machine using two small pads but has no real speed settings like the others. It does work very well however.

White is a hard color to make look really wet which seems to amplify paint. We have had nice success using our Wolfgang 3.0 Sealant and Dodo Waxes makes a hard and soft wax for whites specifically. Our Pinnacle Liquid Souveran would be another choice.

We offer more than several kits that put it all together for easy picking. These are my personal suggestion:
