A friend removed the wheels from his 2004 and is concerned with small metal shavings that have accumulated on the inside of the rim. Is this normal becasue he does not see any problems with brake pads or rotors. Has anyone else experienced this?
Has he recently put on new rotors...specifically cadmium plated?
He purchased the car in March. He has not put new rotors on but the rotors do llok very good so maybe the dealer had replaced them. Is this an issue that he should worry about or is it common on these cars?

Is this on one wheel, front, rear or all 4?
I do not think little metal shavings are considered common. If he just purchased the car you don't know what happened prior to the purchase.
I would take the wheel off, spin the hub and listen for bearing noise, inspect the rotor brake plates and OD to make sure nothing is interfering. If all looks good clean the wheel and replace. Listen for noise while you’re driving if nothing is heard drive it for about 500 miles and inspect again.

I put on a set of cadmium plated rotors and found a bunch of silver metal shavings and splatters on the inside of the wheel after breaking the rotors in. It was simply the melted cadmium being slung off of the rotors from the break-in procedure. Once the rotors were broken in, no more metal shavings in the wheels.
It doesn't sound like what you are describing. I think the advice to have them checked out is good advice.
