let me guess...your clutch pedal is sticking to the floor? If so, do a search on sticking clutch pedal and you will find your fix without replacing the clutch.

What were the circumstances and symptoms that lead you to believe the clutch is toast?

So, we were at the track last night. I made a couple of passes and i was sitting in the stageing lanes... going threw the gears and it would let me go into third.

during my race, it grinded going into third, but i forced it in. and since then it grinds going into 3rd and 4th....

it might not be the clutch.....maybe the syncros going into 3rd? idk?

As long as the clutch is not slipping it's not toast, sounds like more of a trans problem than a clutch problem to me.

Maybe with the heat and the heat buidup from raceing the trans fluid is cooked, I would change the trans fluid, it won't cure the problem but it might help the trans last a little longer with dialy use.

grinding going into 3rd and you FORCED it in? I would say you bent a shift fork or have a synchro going out. My clutch was toast and it was hard to get into 1st and reverse but not the other gears.

So after my talk with Ranger this morning I started to replace my clutch fluid.

The first few times I changed it out it was still dirty. Now the fluid looks fairly clean...

but

The grinding going into third is still there...

I wanna replace the fluid a few more times and then go from there with it...

Thanks Ranger for the talk this morning!

its not going to stop grinding cause its pry got nothing to do with the clutch. Hell I could shift mine with out the clutch and it wouldn't grind if you did it right. And while I agree that keeping you fluid fresh helps, if the clutch is shot, its shot, and the only solution is a better one.

Good to meet you, Mike.

Be persistent with the fluid. If it had never been changed, ought to take 10-20 swaps with interspersed driving to get the fluid back to the same color as coming out of the bottle. Then, it's on to next steps.

For all.

If the clutch hydraulics are malfunctioning, there is often an incomplete release of the clutch even when the pedal is fully depressed. That's can be especially the case during fast shifts. If the seals in the master are hanging, the nominal force needed for the actuator to function fully is compromised.

That's why getting the clutch fluid thoroughly clean is a necessary first-step. If that doesn't solve the grinds, then swapping the master cylinder is the next step. Given the history of the car and its mileage, wouldn't seem likely that the clutch (FW, disc, PP) elements are bad. Clutch hydraulics (fluid or master cylinder) are the usual culprits.

It may turn out that the issue is in the tranny. But that's not the place to start except by those willing to have their wallets pillaged by dealers or shops.

I agree start with the cheap stuff 1st, but why would it just grind going into 3rd? Is the car hard to get into 1st gear or reverse? I did the fluid thing on mine, and while I think it did help, my clutch just wasn't (oz700 tex) strong enough for 700 rwhp. I would recommend the clutch for lesser amounts as it bites hard and has a nice peddle feel and no chatter. I hope to hell the fluid swap fixes your problem because fixing these things is hell on the old checking account lol

was the car off when you were rowing threw the gears? if so the clutch isn't your problem.

New-to-him car with 40K miles; basically stock power. Original clutch with original fluid.

Tranny with steel shift forks is new with less than 2K miles.

Suggest easy driving between fluid changes. No fast or strong shifts.

The fluid swaps will help disgorge air from the hydraulics and give a reliable, consistent engagement point.

Where is the clutch engagement point? And does the engagement point change after the car is driven?

well I would keep doing the flushes if it was better for a shift or two. Mine never ground into 3rd but was hard to get into gear with the car running. The fluid flushes would make it better for a bit, and I never felt the clutch really slip but when rippie took it apart it was gone. The fluid is cheap so keep doing it like ranger says, but I have a feeling you have a new clutch in your future or at the very least some hydraulics. I know the new monster clutch is the clutch of the week right now, but if you are planning on alot of power in the future, spend the big money once and get a clutch that you can grow into.
