Could someone please tell me what exactly the air system does? I was reading a post about fixing a 0492 code and it shows spraying carb cleaner into the AIR intake hose. I trust the forum,I just want to know exactly what I'm messing with.
The secondary air system comes on for the first minute or so when your car is first started. It consists of a blower and a vacuum actuated valve. It blows air taken from rubber hose on air filter housing into each exhaust manifold to cut pollution at startup. The 02 sensors detect this and if all is working well no code. Each manifold has a check valve that can stick or clog up. The drivers side is easy to get to, the passenger a PITA. That is why a cleaner is suggested to fix same. How I understand it if it is code 0491 or 0492 only one side is NG. Not sure which one is which. I just had the P0410 code which is the sec. air system trouble, and it was a PITA to trouble shoot. My problem leaking new battery, acid deteriated vaccum hose to blower actuater valve. Now sporting a Red Top battery. Hope this helps!
Wow,thanks for the info. Had a similar problem on my old camaro. Leaking battery was eatting the side of the radiator. Ate thru two side tanks before we figured it out.
