Been having that rocks in a coffee can rattle on hard acceleration sound for the last few months. Comes from the front of the car and happens only under hard acceleration, otherwise the car is smooth. was told it was detonation from the gas i was using because i put 89 in it. was told to put 91 in it with a bottle of techron top end cleaner. Tried that without resolution of the problem.
any other ideas on what this might be? or how I can fix it?
You have to narrow the noise down to a more specific, centralized area of the car in order to get a reasonable answer to your question.. More info needed.

definitey sounds like detonation (knock) to me. Take care NOT to force it until you get a chance to fix it.
Only use premium fuel and if it continues get a tune up.
Thanks for the hints so far. I bought the car a few months ago, ran 89 for a few weeks then switched to the 91. Only chevron.
If the timing is off, how do I diagnose/repair that?

Bring it to a tuner and only use 91 octane or higher.
You may have carbon build up in the combustion chambers. This will cause detonation even with high octane fuel. I would try to Seafoam it and try to get rid of the carbon.
