Paint overspray
I recently purchased my black C-5 and this has been bugging me ever since I bought it. I noticed looking from the rear that the two mufflers have black paint on them, not alot but kind of like overspray. Did the new C-5 come with a little overspray on the mufflers from the factory? I know that the muffler system is stainless steel and that is why I think that this car has been repainted. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

I wouldn't worry. I have a silver 03 and yes the mufflers have a black spray paint on them. Most of it has come off but I can still see it in several areas.
My '01 came stock with the mufflers painted black. However, the paint tends to peel.
So perhaps someone may have touched them up. It takes special black heat paint according to GM/Chevy.
Repaint jobs are fairly easy to spot, look at areas where it would have been taped off like seams for a paint line. None of the wheel well liners should have paint on them they are naturally dark gray plastic from the factory. Also look for loss of orange peel as the factory paint job has that finish naturally while a repaint will have been sanded smooth.

Thanks, I kinda thought it would be something simple, but I didn't want to look entirely ignorant. What a great forum, there is an increadable amount of knowledge here and it was the best move I did on this computer when I discovered it. I have repeatedly mentioned this to my wife that I'll never need a mechanic to work on my vette, I just go to the forum to get the information, like she's really interested. Thanks again to all that responded.

That was the only area that I questioned. The rest of the car looks like it came right out of the show room. I checked underneith the car and it is spot clean, even still has the stickers (paper) hanging off some of the components.
A new muffler system from Corsa, GHL, Borla is an easy, fairly affordable mod to do to your car. It will change the tone of your C5 and seem like a different animal all togeher. I suggest however, you check out vaious websites that will allow you to listen to clips of how the system sounds on the car. Find the system that fits your level of sound you desire.
