I use the craftsman aluminum racing jack. I like the large "landing pad" that distributes the weight and it will fit under the front bumper with some coaxing.

Here is an additional 'build' to the OP's question - What is the minimum weight a jack should be able to handle for a vette (2,000 lb's, 3,000 lbs, ect)?

I’ve been through 4 Craftsman aluminum jacks in 4 years and all have broke. Thank god for the 1 year warranty! On 3 of them the yokes snapped where the release is since it looks to be made of pot metal and the seal blew out on the last one which I 'think' I can buy a part for.
Since then have had 2 Harbor Freight cheap aluminum jacks. The seal blew on the first one with less than a years use and the last one has been working great for a little over 2 years.
Granted I was using the jacks more than the normal person at autox's, track days, and in the garage but still will never ever buy another Craftsman aluminum jack again.
I bought a GM 2 1/2 ton Low profile jack with a 3 3/8" to 14 3/8" at Wal-Mart for around $50. It has a Led light in the lifting pad and comes with carrying case and 4 different size lug sockets.

Since our C5s weigh less than 3500 lbs. and you can only lift one side or one end at a time 2,000 lbs. will work just fine.
I bought the Costco 3000 lb low profile. $99 It is 3 1/4" at it's lowest.
It makes a great jack for the garage...don't plan to be taking it with you anywhere as it is one heavy baztid.
I just bought a low profile Arcan XL35 jack. Goes from 3 inches to over 20 inches. I bought it from northern tool when they had the free shipping sale,it weighs 105 lbs. Best jack ive ever owned. UPS man about crapped when he brought it to the house.
I use a Harbor Frt (US General #91039) Aluminum Racing Jack, 3000 lbs.
Regular Price is $99 but they run it on sale for $79 ... I got a good
deal with a coupon for $59. PM me, I may have another coupon
somewhere, if interested.
