Default How to insert license plate?

Ok. It's been 3 months since I've had my C5, and it's time to put in the real license plate. I took off the temporary one and realized the metal one does not fit. How do I remove the black plastic that's inbetween the 2 back-up lights? I don't see any screws. And the owner's manual doesn't say anything about it.

I'm not going to put a front plate on as I've noticed from the past few months that there are many cars without front plates in the state. But I'm still curious as to how to pull off that front plate cover as well.

Thanks for the help in advance.

One slot on either side remove with a small screw driver.

Aren't there two tabs on either side? I could be wrong.

Long, slender phillips head screwdriver- bottom gap of cover.

If you can't figure out how to install the license plate by looking at it, then maybe a Corvette is to much car for you. Just Kidding

:lol

But seriously, I just didn't see any screws and I was worried I'd snap the plastic.

I'm just like ULTRA paranoid about the car.

In fact, I'm the one who does everything regarding electronics at home.

I'll take another look. Maybe I just overlooked it.

I saw tabs, but I wasn't sure what's the proper method of getting it off. I hate messing with plastics because I've snapped them before.

Take a flashlight and look in the slots. Use a small flat blade screwdriver and push each tab to the outside of the car.(Left side push to the left, right side push to the right) gently pull the frame away as you release the locking tabs, be very careful ...a new one will cost over $70.'s.

Back Plate cover, 4 slots . . . two on each side. Insert small flat head screwdriver and pull up on cover while pushing the screwdriver in the slot.

Front cover, 2 small phillip head screws under the bottom of the cover

See my first post, 2 tabs one on each side! Flat screw driver, no screws, the flat screw driver is to push the tabs!

Yeah I figured it out tonight. Wow, I must say, that plastic frame fits the plate perfectly. It looks really clean.

I must also say, my worries were not for nothing. Those plastic tabs don't look that strong...

Thanks for the replies.

Glad you got it figured out. Those little tabs are kind of delicate - easy to break off (I speak from experience).

Well after sanding, filling, sanding , primer, wet sanding, finish color, clear coat, buffing (about 6 hrs work total) it slipped out of my hand and fell and broke one of the tabs. So off to the dealer for some sticker shock. I found one on the parts section for $35.'s and started the process again.

You may want to reconsider your no front plate stance, I also speak from experience. Just find one LEO with a dislike for Vettes or nothing better to do and they will be asking for your signature on a little piece of paper. I had four county deputies show up for my reckless plate behavior. and no other warning, tickets or anything.

I know we have some a-hole cops here but that sounds too extreme.

I look at cars around me all the time (Kind of like how we check out each lady in the room when we enter) and I definitely see cars without plates all the time. Many of them are like Honda's, Nissans, Chevys. None of them really have the "need" like our C5's do (We all know how ugly they look with a front plate).

Are you sure you weren't giving them an attitude when they pulled you over? I mean come on, anyone around here in Central Illinois with a vette is not some criminal or reckless drivers... I see a couple C5's every week. Always some decent looking gentlemen.

But I'll reconsider it then.. I get paranoid about tickets and stuff.
