Adding to my troubles over my Z06 hydro-locking last Thursday in torrential downpours in the Tampa Bay area is my insurance company. The adjuster will not replace the motor with a new crate motor from GM if that is even available anymore. All they will do is replace the motor with a motor of the same year and mileage. The mileage must be under 15K to qualify. She states this is how the insurance law is written in the state of Florida? Can somebody verify this is true? My dealer has already located a motor (same year and 6K on the mileage). He also stated this motor would be warrantied for 1 year, parts and labor). Does this sound like my only option right now? My insurance company is the Hartford and the dealer is a preferred shop so I will save a $100 off of my deductible.
Either way I look @ it you got a new motor. But have no idea if it is true or not maybe call another insurance company and just ponder them with questions just act like you might buy from them. Give them what if situations and use your hydro lock one and see what they say.
not familiar with the way your policy is written, but you can always give the insurance commissioner's office a call and ask them.
i agree however that if you get a new engine with decent mileage on it and it is warranteed for a year, you're probably coming out ok. unfortunately, once something is "used" like your old engine has been, it usually doesn't warrant a replacement with a new part. has to do with wear and tear, etc which i know is a major factor in most if not all DD type insurance policies.
i have a friend who was in a similar situation twice over a couple of years with 2 different vehicles, and in both cases made out very well with the replacement engines which proved to be reliable over the time he owned the vehicles.
