has anyone decided that they don't like them and tried to remove? is it dangerous to try, what would the procedure be? I'm not sure if I like them or not.
I removed mine. There have been a number of posts about how to do it. Basically you use monofilament fishing line to 'saw' thru the double-sided tape that holds them on, then clean off the glue residue. Try searching for 'body side moldings' or 'bsms' to get at some of these previous posts. It took me about 3-4 hours, start to finish, because I was being super-careful. You can't tell they were ever on the car, and the moldings are still in perfect condition. I like the look better without them .. opinions tend to run about 50-50.
I also used the fishing line technique. Wear gloves! It helps to have someone pulling the BSM away from the body while you work your way thru the adhesive with the line. You can clean the excess goop off the body by rolling it with your thumbs. I used mineral spirits for the final cleanup...
My car had the body side moldings on it and didnt know or not if i should take it off or not. I wanted to see what it looked like woth it off but never really wanted to mess with it. I always liked the whole ''smooth paint'' and i have seen them without them now but it would be kinda pricey im sure to buy some new ones to get them back on there IF i decided if i wanted them back on there....i think it doesnt look bad anyway
Is it true that the 2001's came factory with them already installed and for the 2002's is it an option for them ?
