When I first joined the forum, in my intro I said I would probably ask a bunch of dumb questions. Well I've been a member for a month now, so I guess it's time to ask my first dumb question. I've been shopping for a Z06 to become my first ever Corvette (always been a Ford owner), and I have noticed that all the ones I've looked at so far have curb rash on at least one or two of the wheels. I've owned my 2001 Cobra almost since it was new, and have never hit a curb with it. So my question is .... Are Corvettes more prone to wheel damage, or is it more difficult to tell how close you are to a curb in these cars?
It's definitely more difficult to gauge distance in a corvette since the hood is much longer than it appears from the drivers seat. However, it blows my mind how people will just gamble knowing there is a curb there and go ahead. I would rather just take the extra 5 seconds to back up and save the wheels. I know exactly what you mean though, when I bought my Z06, every wheel on the car had curb rash.. it was ridiculous on two of them. Just buy some HRE, CCW or IForged wheels
I have never scrubbed the wheels on any of my cars but my Z06 came with rash on all the wheels. I'd rather park a foot away from the curb than scrub them.
I did something really stupid with my 2002 T/A Ws.6... I'd NEVER rubbed or scuffed a wheel. And back when I was REALLY stupid, I smoked some pot with a friend and headed out a few hours later still a little buzzed. I got home safe, but when I was parallel parking, I scuffed a rim for the first time.
I don't smoke pot anymore, but that was my lesson learned.
It's about the driver, not the car. If the driver knows how to park a car, they're not going to scuff the rim.
I just picked up a 2002 Z06 last month, all four rims are perfect. Firehawk Wide Oval's on them currently, seems like a good tire thus far. On my dd (vf34 wrx 297whp) I have Potenza RE-01R's for summer. Wish I could get a set of them on the Z06.
It may be just coincidence, but it's not the car's fault. They don't park themselves, it's driver error. I don't have curb rash on my wheels, the original stock ones or the CCW replacements.
